It Costs You, there’s a new bird in town. Based on the official state bird, the brown thrasher, “The Brown Trasher” is a colorful new mascot that represents a great new program that’s really tak ing flight. “The Brown Trasher” is calhng on youth across Georgia to apply their cre ativity by hatching ideas to give him a new name. Walker in Waycross and Okefenokee Country Club in Blackshear. This event is open to two-man teams of male amateur golfers who are GSGA members, Georgia residents and are age 55 or older as of Nov. 15. The format of the event is 54 holes of flighted, four ball stroke play over three days. The field consists of the 48 teams with the lowest combined USGA Handicap Indexes making up the championship flight. The remaining 48 teams will be determined by lot tery and divided into four separate flights. Alpharetta’s Don Marsh and Larry Clark of Kennesaw, who recently captured the 2006 Georgia Senior Championship, won the championship last year. The duo fired rounds of 66, 65 and 73 to take the event by two strokes over Frank Perry of Fayetteville and Mike Jackson Sr. of Martinez. Lakes at Laura S. Walker and Okefenokee Country Club co-host the Georgia Senior Four-Ball Championship for the third time having hosted last year’s event and the 2002 championship. The 85th annual Atlanta Amateur Match Play takes place Oct. 5-8 at White Columns Country Club in Alpharetta. This event is open to male amateur golfers who are GSGA members and Georgia residents. The format of the event is 18 holes of stroke play with the low 31 players and the event’s defending champion advancing to match play. The Georgia Women’s Team Championship takes place Oct. 17-18 at The Hampton Club on St. Simons Island and is open to two-person teams of female amateur golfers who are GSGA members and Georgia residents, with a maximum handicap dif ferential of eight strokes. Players must also be 18 years old by Oct. 17. The format of the event is one round of flighted, four-ball stroke play and one round in a scramble format. Entry periods are also cur rently open for the Georgia Team Championship (through Oct. 4).
