AREA From page 1B then beat Stephenson, also in two games - 25-13 and 25-22, and then finished off by rout ing Lithonia 25-6 and 25-9. As far as the first match, the one against Redan, head coach Tony Jones said he felt the girls’ play was “bal anced.” “After Wednesday, I felt we lost some of our focus,” he said. “We really were never out of either match. Both Pace and GAC were solid teams but I thought so were we.” To that end, he said they went back into practice Thursday and Friday and “worked on our fundamen tals, the things that have worked for us so far this year. That was on display Saturday.” Jones said the second match Saturday, the one against Stephenson, was a good one for the team’s con fidence. Although, he added, the Lady Bears, after winning the first game easily, jumped out to a big lead in the second and then made some mis takes to let them get back. “But we persevered and won the second game,” he said. In the match against Lithonia, Jones said it was a match they should have won easily, and that’s exactly what they did. “We worked on our spot serving and we were very successful with it,” he said. The wins improved the Lady Bears’ record to 14-5 overall and 5-1 in Area 2- AAAAA. They are currently in second in the area. Up next for Houston County was Warner Robins on the road Tuesday (results pending), then hosting Northside and Ola Thursday, hosting Martin Luther King Friday, before returning to Warner Robins - along with Northside and Perry for the County Championships.
