For starters, Sept. 7, parents and community members dined in with Carrabba’s prior to watch ing the “Sneak Peek” school wide performance of “Surfin’ USA the Kings Chapel Way,” a Beach Boys medley. Sept. 8, the surf was up as more than 200 grandparents joined the Kings Chapel staff and students to officially cel ebrate Grandparents’ Day. Lee Brown, RNC, FNR will discuss the prevention and early detection of prostate/ testicular cancer, the most common form of cancer found in men. Pre-registra tion is required. Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. until noon. Guest speaker will follow at noon. Box 1910, Perry, GA 31069 50 YEARS AGO... ■ September, 1956 - Lee wins second straight club championship at Perry County Club Joneal Lee won the club championship for a second straight year at Perry County Club after the 18-year-old Perry golfer finished in first by shooting a 143 over 36 holes. He was presented with the Smokey Harper-Trophy. Grandparents were invit ed to the school to see the aforementioned medley, participate in classroom activities and for a good old fashioned hot dog cookout. Grandparents also received colorful leis, which were made during art class. Copies of personal narra tives, written during writing workshop, were also shared with grandparents. One attendee, Jennifer Clark, a grandparent from Truro, Mass., more than likely echoed the sentiments of all when she said the day was well worth the trip. the upcoming Fall Rally at the Georgia National Fair and other “pertinent” cur rent information. The 25 advisers in atten dance also met with Jane Cooper, HCHS FCCLA advis er, who serves as Region 2 adviser, for an update. This year’s state theme was “Amplify your Life”.
