I’m officially a senior citizen. I get the
senior citizen discount at the movies. I
wonder if the discount holds for “art”
films.
Since I’ve reached this milestone, I
feel wise beyond my years. I take time
to ponder important questions.
Why do newspapers run fishing
columns? My Muffin, who is aging
more gracefully than I, pointed out
that people know how to fish or they
don’t.
It seems to me that people make
things more difficult than need be.
What does it take to catch fish - bait,
pole, hook.
I find it hard to respect a species
that allows itself to be tricked by
plastic, but that was before modern
science.
When I think of the lures women
use to snag men, I must reconsider.

Fishing is never fun.
It is even less enjoyable today. Gone
are the boats with oars.
Youngster, in my day going fishing
meant slowing down, taking time to
smell the bait. My father used some
awful smelling stuff; we called it stink
bait because he swore that fish had
noses.
Every creature downwind got a
whiff of it and not even buzzards
came near.
Dad caught fish because he put his
line in the water, went to sleep and left

The clock doesn’t lie, to
which Jones said he felt the
match last 35 minutes total.
“The ladies and I set a
couple of goals early on, win
in the Area, win the County
Championship and make the
state playoffs,” Jone said.
“We feel we are well on the
way to all of those goals.”
Jones cited the set-up
work of Nicole Williams as
a key in the first game. She
scored nine straight points
on serves - only one an ace.
Then, Jones said, Morgan
Hollars followed with a “nice
run of serves for points.”
“What really helped us,” he
said, “was the most impres
sive display of defense. We
had ladies scrambling after
every ball.”
The win improved Houston
County’s record to 15-5 over

would bite and find itself hooked. Pops
would wake up, check the pole and

would repeat itself.
