Reserve band performing free concert series Special to the Journal The Band of the U.S. Air Force Reserve and the Museum of Aviation has begun its free, month long concert series at the Museum of Aviation amphi theatre. They will contin ue on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. through Oct. 3. Performed annually in September, this year’s series will kick off with the Band of the U.S. Air Force Reserve’s contemporary rock group, Reserve Generation. The group will play contempo rary popular music, rhythm and blues, jazz and coun try hits from the 60s, and selections from Billboard Magazine’s Hot 100 includ Houston County Career and Technology Center student Jordan Wilson was awarded the Evening Optimist Student of the Month Award for August by Ellen Strait. This is a monthly award presented, according to a release, to a “deserving” student by the Evening Optimist Club of Warner Robins. They used bulletin board preparation skills they have learned through their Early Childhood Education class. Their teacher is Jane Cooper. Math can be fun ing rock, rap and hip-hop. Tuesday, the band’s Blue Notes will play a blend of jazz and blues with a touch of Latin spice, blending tra ditional swing with today’s rock, comedy, choreography, and audience participation. On the following Tuesday, Southern Aire, the Celtic rock group made up of mem bers from the Air Force Reserve Pipe Band, will per form Celtic music on a vari ety of traditional Irish and Scottish instruments. The concert series will end Oct. 3 with the Concert Band performing a wide range of music from classical to Broadway and Hollywood music. “The people and com Top student Door winners munities of Middle Georgia are such great supporters of Team Robins and the Air Force Reserve,” said Capt. Chad Steffey, Reserve Band commander and conductor. “The September Concert Series is a wonderful oppor tunity for us to give some thing back to them. It’s also special for the band mem bers to play at home for their friends and families, since we spend most of the year traveling.” Concert goers are encour aged to come early and bring a picnic basket, lawn chairs and blankets. In case of inclement weather, the concerts will be held in the Century of Flight Hangar.
