HOUSTON DAILY JOURNAL Church donates $20,000 to Lindsey Elementary School Special to the Journal Lindsey Elementary School received a donation of $20,000 from the First Baptist Church of Garmon Street. First Baptist has been a partner with Lindsey for years and has given Finan cial support over the past six years ranging from $15,000 to $20,000 annually. The Students take part in BEAR Celebration Special to the Journal Students of Perry Primary recently participated in this year’s first BEAR Celebration. This month’s celebration had a patriotic theme due, according to a release from the school, to Patriot Day and Constitution Day falling in September. Students who used good behavior were recognized and received numerous priz es, the release read. The students received books, hats, stickers, balls and/or other gifts for making “good choices.” Per the release: “Thank you to the students of Perry Primary for making good choices.” Dos and don’ts of borrowing money from family Special to the Journal Our support systems are built with family and friends who come to our aid in times of need. But, financial sup port may be another story. With seemingly countless forms of credit lines and loans, why are many still tempted to seek money from loved ones? Mike Sullivan, director of education for Take Charge America, a national non profit credit counseling agen cy, says the credit lines and loans may have triggered the problem in the first place. If you are considering lean ing on family or friends for financial support, Sullivan has some suggestions: Don’t: Borrow money for unnecessary reasons. Ask ing for money to purchase luxury items likes clothes and electronics can put an unnecessary strain on rela tionships with friends and family. Put yourself in their position and reevaluate the differences between your wants and needs. Don’t: Lie about your financial situation. Come clean with family and friends. Their emotional support can be just as use ful as financial support. If you are experiencing serious money troubles, be honest and seek professional help if necessary, like credit coun seling. Don’t: Make late payments. If you take out a loan from loved ones, respect home repair loan flHfiCity of Warner Robins I@QP%DOES YOUR HOME NEED REPAIRS? Making late payments can multiply a bad situation by creating holes in their budgets and increas ing their debts. Don t: Take advantage of the situation. Borrowing money from family and friends should not become habitual. Make it a one-time thing and create a work able plan so that the finan cial crisis doesn t happen again. Expect (and offer) to pay interest. This shows that you are serious about repaying the debt. Do: Put in it writing. This protects both parties.
