6B ♦ SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 23, 2006 PANTHERS From page jB The contrast in these two school’s offensive approach was evident when the Panthers stayed on the turf to get the game’s final points. Eleven of the next 12 plays were on the run, and Golden converted yet again on fourth down plowing his way to midfield. Hayward lost some yards on a first down at the 23, so he made his one fling threw the air. Trey Smith redeemed some earlier misses for first down on the 5. Davis completed the deal from there. Hayward, on the strength of two long touch down runs in the first half, had 140 yards. The teams gave the Panther Pit crowd offsetting scores before it could get settled in its seats. Hayward lined the Panthers up for the first snap of the night. He pulled off a fake to the fullback and found a lot of room on the right side to score a 70-yard touchdown. Bill Freeman provided the PAT kick, and it was 7-0 Perry. That lead lasted as long as the ensuing kickoff to Jackson. Calhoun put a good hit on Jackson’s return man, the arms were still free. That’s significant because there was a pitch backwards to a Red Devil teammate. He found his way to the visiting sidelines and kept running to the end zone. Jackson jumped ahead 14- 7 almost as quickly after its defense stopped a good Perry drive from inside the Panther 20 almost to mid field. The Panthers punted Jackson to the Red Devil 28, but Lunsford was all ready to display his team’s potent passing attack. He did it with two throws, one a fade to Keye - already committed to attend Kentucky - to his 49. The second was an out pattern to Tiger Hill, who didn’t find DEMONS From page iB ran 65-yards for a touchdown to open the second quarter. Grant’s 21-yard run upped the score to 28-6 and Demons’ quarterback Mark Wright Jr. hit Ryan Reid for a 63-yard touchdown to give Warner Robins a 35-6 lead. Grant’s 11-yard run capped the scor ing for the Demons in the first half. David Clark kicked all of the extra points for Warner Robins, finishing the night with eight PATs. Way took the starters out at the half, but Brandon Jackson didn’t waste his chance to carry the football. On the opening play of the second half, Jackson made his own 65-yard jaunt for a touchdown. He finished with 69 yards on three carries. Fred Martin added another score on a five-yard run, and Warner Robins led 56-6. Cummings hit James Frazier for a 12-yard touch down late in the fourth quar ter for the final 56-18 score. The Demon defense inter cepted Cummings twice and Warner Robins turned both those miscues into scores. Warner Robins finished the game with 453 yards rushing on 49 carries for 9.2 yards per carry average. TIE From page jB This time the War Eagles took advantage, drove it down and scored. That came with 3:27 left in the game. If that wasn’t enough, after their defense held the Hornets on their subsequent next possession, Brentwood threatened again. They took the ball from their own 26 and in three plays had it at Westfield’s 26 with : 10.9 showing. Drew Payne dropped the War Eagles’ runner for a three-yard loss on the next play, however, and then on the next, Ryan Campbell blocked a 43-yard field goal attempt to end the game. Both teams’ records now stand at 1-2-1. much resistance to score a 51-yard touchdown at 6:44 of the first quarter. With Jackson’s next pos session, the visitors tried to mix in a run. With it, the Devils penetrated into Panther ground at the 33- yard-line. Kanorris Davis and Robby Taylor eventually got a lock on the running back, Jarvis Barlow, and forced Jackson to punt. Perry’s offensive efforts saw some busted plays, but with Kanorris Davis and Ambrose Kendrick keeping Barlow in check. It remained a one-possession game going into the second quarter. The biggest break Perry could ask for happened half way through the period. On a third-down play by the Jackson offense, Taylor ran down Lunsford by the side lines. There were flags in the secondary area, which turned out to be offsetting holds. In addition, Keye was ejected from the contest. The third down had to be replayed, and it still turned out good for the Panthers with a sack by Kendrick and Tony Davis. The breaks kept on coming as Jackson’s shaky punting game was at ID:OiV^rTOA^fQBTg€IANS§INjSa Choose From - A mMP« Metal 9 mWßlWpitfi single MKMlMPlastlc tenses UtiCHKTilwilTiimiffirfinnnniiifinnn r - rWt ACCIPT MOST INSURANCE ASSI6NMINTS ■ S CIvNA OPEN HOUSE SEPT. 29-30 * ■' * MjfijwjnoOTV-' ■ JMr '• Jmrf > JW.. t • ' jgj^r ; . • V. ■ i-i Town 8 Country Motorsports 581 Carl Pkwy V Warner Robins GA FIXED PAYMENT 1 * THE RANCHER ROUNDUP SALES EVEWPf rivrn nimr o,l " th,wp,rt *’**•* ,n * tbtbßOt 1 rvput>t ’ 01 * ,rb * in| * ,fbr * : ** fDMrTr ** FIXED RATE i B»nch*rv Th»»r t«o|hn*ss »nd d«p«nialility i*wtwt pets tham on top •»A»»»rica* bast-«*!tingATVs. How would Jackson live on offense without Keye? Lunsford found some new targets with his inside slot receivers. The Devils about wiped out the rest of the first half on a 16-play drive with not one, not two, but three fourth-down conver sions. All of them were on the Perry side of the 50. Lunsford found an inside man on a first-down throw to the Panther 48. Jacavesia Hayward, a junior lineman, stopped the run that set up Jackson’s first look at fourth down. It was only half a yard away, and Lunsford got that with no trouble. With another throw at the slot, Jackson had first down on the 24, but a Kanorris Davis third-down sack set up 4th-and 16 on the 30. The Devils went for hit, and Hill, still a tall outside threat, caught a throw over the middle on the 5. Four plays later, still on the 5 and still with time to go, Lunsford made a comple tion in the flat to Lamarcus Strickland. The result ing touchdown and PAT stretched the Devils to a 21- 13 halftime lead.
