The cost per child is $65. After today, however, the cost goes up to $75. Where you sign up and register is where you practice and play the games. You may register at the follow ing locations in Warner Robins: Second Baptist at 2504 Moody Rd (923-7101), Friendship Baptist at 1322 Feagin Mill Rd. Museum to host Georgia Invitational golf tourney The 17th Annual Museum of Aviation Foundation Georgia Invitational Golf Tournament will be held Thursday-Friday at the Pine Oaks Golf Club at Robins Air Force Base. The two-day tournament, according to the release, is the largest outing in Middle Georgia and is made up of three sepa rate rounds - one Thursday and two Friday - with separate prizes for each round. The total value of prizes and giveaways is more than $30,000. Foursomes will compete in a “scramble” handicapped format. Tee times are noon Thursday and 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Friday. Golfers receive a commemo rative golf shirt, a Thursday night traditional “Plantation Supper,” luncheon buffets and a barbe cue awards dinner. The single player fee is $250. Perry’s boys track team to sell Fair tickets The Perry High School boys track team will be holding a fund-raiser. The group will be selling a three-day student pass (ages 11-18) for the Georgia Nationa Fair. The tickets are for gate admission and cost $lO (a savings of $8). The pass is good for Oct. 10- 12. Tickets can be purchased at the Perry High School front office. The last day to buy will be Sept. 29. Money raised will help buy uniforms and equipment for the team. Contact Cassandra Dixon at 988-6299 for more. Houston County YMCA to hold spruce-up day The Houston County YMCA has set a spruce-up day for Sept. 30. During that time will get together to update the inte rior of the building. The time will be from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. and the organization is looking for 50 volunteers to help out. MGC soccer team to play Georgia College The Middle Georgia College Lady Warriors soccer team will host Georgia College & State University's junior varsity team Sunday at 3 p.m. Warner Rollins halts skid; bounces Beach By JOE SERSEY Journal Correspondent Warner Robins rejoined the winning ranks with a 56-18 win over Beach High School Friday night at McConnell- Talbert Stadium. “We haven’t been playing well the past two M Warner Robins 56, Beach 18 weeks,” said Demons head coach Bryan Way. “I’m proud of our kids. Last week, we had the best week of prac tice since I’ve been the head coach.” For the first five minutes, Beach looked to make a con test of the game. Warner Robins took a 7-0 lead on its first possession, but Beach responded with an eight-play 55-yard drive sparked by five straight com pleted passes. “I told everybody that (Markeith Cummings) could throw,” Way said. But it was enough to keep the Perry High Panthers two points away from knocking off Jackson High at home. Instead, the Red Devils took a 28-27 final in a battle of Region 4-AAA schools from separate sub-regions. Kenny Davis scored his second of two second-half touchdowns with 45 seconds remaining. Perry trailed Westfield beats Southland; sets up showdown for first By MATTHEW BROWN Journal Sports Writer Kelsey Gilliam threw a four-hit shut out with eight strikeouts Thursday at home, and Westfield’s softball club set up a home at-home showdown next week with Sherwood Christian for what will decide first place in Region 3-AAA. Westfield earned revenge against Southland Academy for a 2-0 loss Sept. 12 in Americus by turning the tables on the Raiders 3-0. Sherwood defeated Deerfield-Windsor in their game on Thursday, so the Hornets and Sports night completing 50 percent of his passes for 178 yards on 15 completions on 30 attempts with two intercep tions. The Demons’ defense appeared in trouble, but the Demons’ “D” held the Bulldogs’ Cummings to limited completions for the remainder of the first half while the Warner Robins “O” racked up 35 unanswered points. The Demons led 42-6 at the half. Jeremy Grant scored three touchdowns on runs of 4, 21 and 11 yards. He fin ished the half with 76 yards on 10 carries. Dewayne Jackson rushed for 89 yards on nine carries. His three-yard touchdown run capped the Demons’ 10-play, 91-yard drive in the first quarter that made an emphatic response to the Bulldogs touchdown. Warner Robins led 14-6 after the first quarter. Jackson also pounced on the onside kickoff - which everyone within earshot knew was coming - and escaped with the win. Davis scored both his touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Perry was down 21- 13 at the half and survived the third quarter with that score in tact. But, it was another untimely foul that prevented the Panthers from ending the third with six points. WESTFIELD HORNETS Westfield 3, Southland 0 Jackson lined up for a 27-yard field goal try, but Zetavius Cheatham came through the line for the block. Stephen Calhoun scooped up the live foot ball and sprinted down the middle of the field. Though Clearman was tagged out on the throw from the out field before touching home plate, the plate umpire awarded the home team a 1-0 lead. * Moreland, who made a mid-season See SHOWDOWN, page iB SECTION B limps a no-show for Perry game; Northside wins By DON MONCRIEF Journal Sports Editor “Kill the umpire.” OK, make that “find the umpire.” Or, at least that was the case for Perry Thursday as it traveled to Macon for a fast-pitch soft ball game scheduled against Northeast. The Lady Panthers went. The umpires didn’t, said Perry head coach Jeff Sans who in turn was trying to get in touch with Bibb County’s athletics director for an explanation. In a game where the umpires did show up, Northside beat Baldwin 10- 7 at home. The Lady Braves broke a scoreless tie over three innings in this one with a run in the top of the fourth. Northside, however, matched that with one in the bottom of the inning. With both teams appar ently finding the measuring stick, Baldwin then scored three in the fifth. That trio was countered with six by the Lady Eagles in the home half, and that was to prove to be as close as Baldwin would get. It scored lone runs in the See WINS, page iB NS, Perry first at Northeast From staff reports Northside’s girls and Perry’s boys were the cream of the crop at the Northeast Invitational cross coun try meet held Thursday in Macon. The Lady Eagles finished first at the meet as did the Panthers. For the girls Houston County wasn’t far behind - at all. The Lady Bears were second followed by Central and Westside. This was the second win of the year for the Lady Eagles, who also have two second place finishes to their credit from other meets.
