This newspaper is a member of The Georgia Press Association, The National Newspaper Association and The Associated Press State Briefs Fort Stewart soldier killed SAVANNAH (AP) - A Fort Stewart soldier was killed in a car crash that sent another soldier to jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said Sunday. The soldier who died was a passenger of a Ford Mustang driven by Kent William-East, 21, according to a Savannah- Chatham Metropolitan Police statement. The dead soldier’s name was not released pending notifica tion of his family. The car crashed into an oak tree early Sunday morning. Both East and the other soldier were taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center but the pas senger died shortly after arriving to the hospital. Police investigating the crash found signs of alco hol use and “indications of excessive speed,” according to the statement. East received minor inju ries in the crash. He was booked into the Chatham County Jail after he was released from the medical center. ALICE E. {BF.TTYI (GAMMTF.I HARRELL WARNER ROBINS - Alice E. Harrell, 93, passed away Thursday. Harrell was bom on December 28, 1912 in Collinwood, Ohio. Her husband preceded her in death, as did her son. Survivors include a son and daughter, four grandchildren and eight grandchildren. DOROTHY JEAN NEWMAN DOTSON PERRY - Dorothy Jean Newman Dotson, 64, passed away Saturday, September 23, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Perry Presbyterian Church. The Reverends Bob Wojohn and Parker Agnew will officiate. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. at Old Oakhill Cemetery in Griffin with Elder Gordon Buchanan officiating. Ms. Dotson, a lifelong resident of Griffin, but had been a resident of Perry for the last 13 years, was the daughter of the late Lecil and Jewell (Malone) Newman. She was a retired school bus driver with the Spaulding County Board of Education and attended Perry Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her children; Denise Dotson O Neal (Randy) of Perry, Donnie Dotson, Darrell Dotson of Griffin, Dustan Dotson (Cindee) of Warner Robins. A brother, Reuben Newman, Griffin and a sister, Cecilia Dunn (Troy) of Griffin. Grandchildren; Josh and Hannah O’Neal, Britny and Hunter Dotson, Savannah & Emma Dotson, Desarae and Tristen Dotson and Jessica and Jennifer Marchent.
