Warner Robins takes two Graham no-hits Colquitt; Conlon leads Demonettes past Valdosta By MATTHEW BROWN Journal Sports Writer A no-hitter is impressive enough at the high school level, but Warner Robins High’s Kristen Graham did WARNER ROBINS DEMON Warner Robins 4, Colquitt County 0; Demonettes 12, Valdosta 2 run home run at the plate in a 4-0 per fect-game victory. Graham struck out 10 in leading the Demonettes to the first of two Region 1-AAAAA wins at home over the weekend. Amber Conlon, who also hit a home run in Friday’s game, took the pitcher’s circle Saturday against Valdosta. She pitched four shutout innings before the Wildcats got to her with two runs in the top of the fifth. All that meant was the Demonettes would get to hit in the bottom half, which is when the game ended with a 12-2 Warner Robins victory. “It was good for her and for us,” said coach Brenda Arnett about Graham’s pitching. “We hit better Kh j one better on her home softball field Friday. The Wildcats had thee hits in five innings, but it was the bases on balls that would give Conlon problems in the fifth. She walked three to load the bases with one out, and two runs scored on a hit deep on the left-field line. Arnett said she was impressed with the way Conlon worked out of that shaky inning, which ended with her ninth strikeout. Katie Farinelli had three hits batting in the leadoff spot. She beat out an infield single in the home first. Lauren Graham bunted her over, then on the first pitch she saw Kristen Graham hit the ball on the ground. She may have lost her perfect HOUSTON COUNTY Il BEARS Houston County 13, Valdosta 0 game and no-hitter on one swing, but she was in no dan ger of losing her shutout or win against Region 1- AAAAA Valdosta High. Burroughs and the Bears trounced the Wildcats 13-0 in five to jump to 6-1 in the region, which is good for a first place tie with Warner Robins High. Houston County is 15-3 overall with a region game com ing up on the road today against Colquitt County. Burroughs struck out seven with no walks in five innings. The only Wildcat hit came on a 2- 2 count with two outs in the top of the fifth. “Not walking anybody, that’s always good,” said coach Cristi Griffin. “The defense did a good job, too,” Valdosta went for a bunt single in the top of the third, but Carriker, at third base, was on the ball and got it to Bethany Crenshaw, the second baseman covering first, in time.
