The young St. Simons Island men gradu ated together from Glynn Academy and were fresh men at the University of Georgia. On Sunday night, they were driving back to Athens during a heavy rainstorm after spending the weekend at home with family and friends when Nyenhuis’ car skidded into the path of an oncoming pickup truck, according to Georgia State Patrol troopers. Nyenhuis, 18, was killed in the collision. McCormick, also 18, sustained multiple injuries in the crash about 8:10 p.m. on Georgia 15 at Eley Road near Greensboro in North Georgia, said Trooper Thomas Bailey, who is lead investigator in the fflt tw» ' , f&m. Police arrested one gunman and are still searching for the others. Investigators are still trying to determine their motives, but do not think the shootings are related. “We have nothing to indicate they are connect ed,” Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police spokes man Sgt. WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2006 < State appeals photo ID ruling ATLANTA (AP) - The state has filed an appeal to a Superior Court judge’s rul ing which declared Georgia’s photo ID law unconstitution al, blocking enforcement of the law in this fall’s general election.
