LOCAL Two armed career criminals each get mandatory sentences By RAYLIGHTNER Journal Staff Writer Two Warner Robins men will be spending the next 15 years in federal prison. According to Maxwell Wood, United States Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia, the two were sentenced on Wednesday in federal court for violations of federal firearms laws. Both had pled guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and were sentenced by United States District Court Judge Duross Fitzpatrick to 180 months imprisonment. Jason Whittaker, 24, of Warner Robins, had previ ously entered a plea of guilty on June 22. He was appre hended by officers from the Warner Robins Police Department and found in possession of several sto len firearms. Whittaker had prior convictions for burglary, aggravated bat tery and rioting in a penal institution, which qualified him as an armed career criminal, Wood said. The second man, Michael Joseph Sarber, 23, of Warner Robins, entered his plea of guilty on May 23. His charge stems from the Aug. 26, 2005, burglary of Northside Pawn Shop, in which he stole a firearm from the shop. Sarber had three prior convictions for burglary, which qualified him as an armed career criminal, Wood said. “These prosecutions represent the effective ness of the Project Safe Neighborhoods Initiative. Targeting armed career criminals will make our community safer,” Wood said. “These two young men amassed serious criminal records in a very short time. Under the Armed Career Criminal Act, seri ous offenders received serious time,” Wood said, I $ 40% OFF MEN’S SPORT SHIRTS IBy Van Heuserv and Sun River"; Reg. 20.00-45.00, SALE 12.00-27.00 30% OFF CHILDREN’S SETS By Specialty Baby , Pogo Club", Graphite', more.
