The event offers fairgoers a peek at what the fair has to offer this year. Fair admission: $3 for adults and seniors, children 10-and-under get in free. Pay-one-price Midway: Rides open at 3 p.m.; sl2 for unlimited rides (does not include fair gate admission or SPEED, nonmechanical Midway rides, Agri- Lift or boat rides). The opening ceremony with Sen. Ross Tolleson will be at 4 p.m. at Reaves Arena. Sneak-a-Peek food includes: Funnel cakes, cotton candy, gyros and corn dogs. Music: Free out door concert featuring Stillwater and opening act Big Mike and the Booty Papas. Music has a 7:30 p.m. start time. - Charlotte Perkins Staton to speak at Republican breakfast The Republican Breakfast Meeting will be Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Sonny’s Real Pit BBQ, which is located at 811 Russell Parkway in Warner Robins. The reduction brought the millage into line with higher property evaluations. County awards bids for 2 projects By RATLIGHTNER Journal Staff Writer Two more major road proj ects from the 2001 Special Purpose Local Option Sale Tax soon will be starting. The Houston County Commissioners, during their meeting Tuesday, awarded the bids for the Moody Road and Carl Vinson Parkway/Leverette Road projects. Voting against the change were council mem bers James Moore and Brian Bowen. Under Georgia law, only 40 percent of the assessed value of a given piece of property is taxable. Thus, with a home assessed at SIOO,OOO, property taxes are levied on $40,000. Perry’s two companies - Folsom Construction of Cordele and Georgia Asphalt of Macon bid on the projects and each was awarded a project for their low bids. Folsom Construction was low bidder at $3,765,031.95 for the widening of Moody Road from two to five lanes from Feagin Mill Road to Ga. 96 with intersection improvements throughout. The estimated com property tax levy would be $13.05 on each SI,OOO of assessed value, or in the case of a SIOO,OOO home, about $522. Under the 13.33 mill age rate, it would have been about $533. At the meeting, the city council also approved a non exclusive franchise for Cox Communications to provide cable service.
