Submitted Tech completes adjustment By Adam Van Brimmer Morris News Service ATLANTA-GeorgiaTech’s coaches and players found plenty of flaws Sunday while watching film of Saturday’s 27-23 win against Maryland. Blown pass coverages on defense. Missed opportunities, particularly in the passing game, on offense. Shoddy special teams play on kickoffs and field goal attempts. For all the blemishes, though, they also saw some thing encouraging: A win ning attitude. “We overcame a couple of things that I think in the past would have shut us down,” quarterback Reggie Ball said. Several things, actually. The Yellow Jackets (5-1 overall, 3-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) fell behind for the first time since the sea son opener against Notre Dame only to rally for vic tory in the fourth quarter. And they never doubted they would win, even when the Terrapins drive inside the 10-yard line in the final minute. That alone could signal the coming end of a string of seven-win seasons on The Flats. “I was glad to see every body stay positive,” defen sive end Michael Johnson said. “When we were down, we got back up. It never really crossed my mind that we would lose. That is the way everybody was. We stayed calm.” That peace and confidence are good signs to head coach Chan Gailey. The attitude is indicative of a veteran team with the desire to improve. “As you continue to get better in all phases of the game, that’s what happens,” Gailey said. The Jackets head into their lone bye week with the conference’s best record. At 3-0 in league play, they are one of two undefeated teams in the le'ague and the only unbeaten in the Coastal Division. The Bulldogs plummeted six spots to No. 16 in the Associated Press top 25. It’s the Bulldogs lowest ranking since they finished 22nd in the final poll after the 2001 season and puts them three spots below Georgia Tech. The 51-33 loss marked the fourth most points allowed this season by a team from a Bowl Championship Series con ference. Kentucky gave up 59 to Louisville and North Carolina and Indiana allowed 52. Now, Georgia (5-1, 2-1 SEC) wants to show it can rebound and isn’t ready to concede the SEC East title to No. 2 and unbeaten Florida (6-0, 4-0) by a long shot. “The reality is there’s one undefeated team in the Southeastern Conference,” said Georgia coach Mark Richt, whose DONATE TO GOODWILL. ♦ 2209 Moody Road ♦ 5 Margie Drive ♦ 1355 Sam Nunn Blvd ♦ Galleria Mall - 2922 Watson Blvd www.goodwillworks.org Building lives, famines, and communities FROM PRICEY CABLE PHONE BROADBAND DIGITAL TV EVERYDAY LOW PRICE! squad slipped to 14th in both the - USA Today coaches’ poll and Harris Interactive poll. “The race is on.
