Whether you’re counting
calories or trying to increase fiber in your
diet, little adjustments in the food you eat
can make a big difference.
W hen you crave a burger and are watch
ing tat intake, do you opt for ground
turkey > Unless you select ground turkey
breast, you wont be making much of a
difference because the fat and calories in
regular ground turkey (200 calories and
11 grams fat) and ground round beef (218
calories and 15 grams fat) are nearly the
same. By selecting ground turkey breast,
however, you'll carve off about -40 calories
and half the fat of regular ground turkey.

Turkey Cheeseburgers with Sun-Dried Tomato Mayonnaise
GiCi's Oat and Chocolate Bars
GiGi's Oot and Chocolate Bars
Batter:
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups firmly packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
214 cups all-purpose flour
I teaspoon salt
I teaspoon baking soda
3 cups uncooked quick oats
Filling:
I (12-ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
2 tablespoons butter
I teaspoon vanilla extract
14 teaspoon salt
14 cup chopped walnuts
Preheat oven to 350 F. Lightly grease a 13-by-9-inch baking pan.
Cream together butter and brown sugar. Add eggs and vanilla.
Stir in flour, salt and baking soda. Add oats: mix well. Press two
thirds of the batter into the pan. For the filling, melt chocolate
chips with milk, butter, vanilla and salt over medium heat, stir
ring constantly to avoid scorching. Remove from heat as soon
as chocolate is melted. Pour over batter in baking pan. Sprinkle
with nuts. Crumble remaining batter over filling. Bake 25 to
30 minutes or until golden brown. Cut into bars when cooled.
Yield: 24 bars.
Turkey Cheeseburgers
Burgers:
2 teaspoons olive oil
1 large shallot, chopped
Zi teaspoon poultry seasoning
14 teaspoon each salt and pepper
14 cup breadcrumbs
IZi pounds ground turkey
4 slices reduced-fat Cheddar cheese
4 burger buns, toasted
Mayonnaise:
14 cup oil-packed sun-dried tomatoes,
drained
2 teaspoons cider vinegar
I tablespoon water
14 cup light mayonnaise
I strip bacon, cooked and crumbled
Heat oil in a nonstick skillet and saute shallots until light
golden. Stir in poultry seasoning, salt and pepper. In a
large bowl, combine shallots with breadcrumbs and
turkey. Divide into 8 patties. Race cheese slices on top
of 4 patties. Cover with remaining patties. Rnch edges
to seal. Cook burgers in same skillet about 4 minutes
per side over medium-high heat or until centers are no
longer pink. Serve on buns with tomato mayonnaise. To
prepare mayonnaise, puree tomatoes, vinegar and water
in a food processor or blender. Stir in mayonnaise and
bacon. Refrigerate until ready to serve Serves 4.
