The firemen also demonstrated to the students equipment they use when fighting fires and the students were able to experience the feel of a real fire by participating in a mock fire using the Warner Robins Fire Department Smoke House. “Thank you Perry Fire Department for helping us learn more about Fire Safety,” the children wrote in a release. Judges gave the band the highest rating category, Superior, for all functional areas. The Drum Line and Color Guard were also awarded Best of Class AAA. The Pride of the Crossroads Band will next compete in the Sound of Silver Invitational hosted by Pierce County. Accepting awards on behalf of the band were drum majors Sarah Jansen, Ethan Reber and section leaders. NHS SADD Club hosts little Miss Northside pageant Special to the Journal The Northside High School Students Against Destructive Decisions Club is holding the Little Miss Northside Pageant for girls ages 3-8 Nov. 12 at the Ray Horne Theater. All contestants must have parents who live or work in Houston County. There will be two age divisions. Teeny Miss Northside, for girls who are 3-5, wili begin at 1 p.m. Little Miss Northside, ages 6-8, will begin at 3 p.m. The queen select ed in each age group will receive a crown, sash and trophy. She must also ride in the Warner Robins Christmas Parade Dec. 2. Superior performance All contestants will receive a participation trophy. The pageant is open to the public. Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children 3-12 (under 3 is free) and $2 for NHS students with a school ID. One parent will be admitted for free with each contestant. The deadline for applications is Wednesday. The pageant is a fund-raiser for programs, such as Prom/ Graduation Promise and Ghost Out, which encour age the community to take a stand against drunk driv ing and drug use. SADD is an inclusive organization that seeks to inform, educate, support and empower young people to make positive decisions in their lives. It is com energy conservation. SADD believes that young people can have fun, enjoy life and nurture positive personal relation ships without the distrac tion and distortion of alco hol and other drugs.
