Staff Sgf. Terry Grace, bassist with Reserve Generation, plays for third through sev
enth grade students attending an anti-drug concert Oct. 25 at Trinity University in San
Antonio. The concert was part of National Red Ribbon Week, an anti-drug campaign
focused on educating individuals, families and communities on the destructive effects
of drugs and the positive alternative life choices that are available to youth. The 2006
Red Ribbon Week ran from Oct. 23-29. Reserve Generation is part of the Air Force
Reserve Command Band at Robins Air Force Base.

Armed with his weap

faces down the menace that
destroyed his cousin’s life.
Sergeant Grace is the
bass player for Reserve
Generation, the Air Force
Reserve Command Band
from Robins Air Force Base,
which entertained more
than 500 local elementa
ry school students at the
Trinity University audito
rium San Antonio, Texas
Oct. 25 and taught them
about being drug free. The
group, which entertained
the audience with a mixture
of 14 top children’s musical,
hits, dancing and an elabo
rate lightshow, performed in
celebration of Red Ribbon
week. The anti-drug cam
paign is something Grace
takes seriously, he said. He
has seen firsthand the dev
astation drugs can cause.
Grace has a cousin who had
everything going for him in
life. A wife, four kids and a
successful military career all
were taken away from him
because of drugs.
“He was brilliant and could
do anything he put his mind
to, but the drugs destroyed
him,” Grace said.
Unfortunately there will
be no happy Hollywood end
ing for Grace’s cousin. After
being forced to live on the
streets, he contracted Aids
from a dirty needle and now
only has months left to live.
When Grace sees a crowd
of children waiting for him
to perform, he said it is a

ligaments

in your

In some
people the
constant
demand
of daily
use are
enough to
weaken
the tis-
sues. Being overweight may
also aggravate such prob
lems. Ligament and tendon
injuries can also result from
a direct blow or a sudden
twist. Treatment goals for
tissue problems include
reducing abnormal pull on
the ligament and tendon.
Planter Fascitis
Planter fascitis is an
inflammation of the ligament
running from your heel to
I the ball of your foot (planter
fascia). The bottom or inside
'of your heel may hurt when
•you stand. If your foot flat
tens too much the planter
•fascia may overstretch and
•become inflamed.
• If your foot doesn’t flat
ten, the planter fascia may
ibe pulled to tight eventu
•ally causing pain. The pain
usually decreases after you
chance to use the lessons he
learned from his cousin to
prevent it from happening to
the next generation.
“The thing about these
kids is that they are very
bright and they have a lot
of energy,” he said. “You
want to influence them in a
positive way and give them
the power to make the right
decisions in life.”
The group travels across
the country educating thou
sands of students. Grace
said he feels fortunate to do
his job.
“”It started as a directive
from our headquarters,” he
said. “But, because I have a
personal relationship with
someone that succumbed
to drugs, the show became
more personal and the mes
sage the Air Force wants to
get out to the children is the
same message I want to get
out.”
The concert entertains the
children while it educates
them. A few times during
the concert, random audi
ence members are brought
on stage to participate.
Audience members are also
encouraged to sing and
dance along with the group
at their seats. The energy
from the children makes
it easier to perform, even
when the group is tired from
working a hectic schedule,
the sergeant said.
Rhiana Martinez, a.m. 11-
year-old from San Antonio
said she enjoyed the show
and wishes it was longer.
“I think it was awesome
because it was about being
drug free,” she said. “They
were really good. I hope
walk a few steps, but it may
return with prolong move
ments.
Tendonitis
Inflammation of a tendon
or the tissue surrounding it
is called tendonitis. You may
feel pain when you move
your ankle or when your
heel shifts from side to side.
The Achilles and peroneal
tendons are common sites
for tendonitis.
Other ligament and ten
don problems
Chronic ankle sprain
Chronic ankle sprain
occurs when an old injury
doesn’t heal properly and
weakens the tissues that can
be easily re-injured. Your
heel may hurt below your
anklebone and feel unsteady
during side-to-side move
ment.
Sinus Tarsi Syndrome
Sinus Tarsi Syndrome
occurs when a sprain doesn’t
heal properly an abnormal
scar tissue forms. The scar
tissue pressures against
small nerves, which run
through the small space
(sinus) where your leg and
foot meet.
You may feel pain when
you move or touch the area
near the sinus tarsi.
