Submitted Miller math and science lab used to increase test scores Special to the Journal Miller Elementary School has created a lab to pro vide its students the oppor tunity for more hands-on experience with math and science concepts. The lab uses math games and other interactive activities to help improve student learning and to build social skills. A recent addition to the classroom is a Promethean ACTlVboard interactive whiteboard. The board can be used with software or any program on the linked computer. Teachers interact with the board using an ACTIVpen. The classroom space is pri marily reserved for Early Intervention Program teachers. EIP was designed to identify and assist stu dents who are performing below academic grade level or are at risk of not reach ing or maintaining grade level performance. These students receive additional instruction to help obtain the necessary skills in the shortest time possible. Submitted Linwood Elementary School has once again challenged its students to read for One Million Minutes this school year. The students recently celebrated reaching the 250,000-minute milestone with local children’s author Melanie Davis Jones. Jones talked with the students about writing and the importance of reading.
