His specialty is the sprint races, where he has *run 46 seconds in the 400 meters, below 21 seconds in the 200 meters and 10.29 seconds in the 100 meters. It was back in 1996, though, that a new and unique opportunity came Thurman’s way. While training for track events at Long Beach City College in California, he caught the attention of the U.S. bobsledding coach with his run in the 400 meters. Thurman said he was wait ing for a bus when another one with the bobsled team happened to pull up where he was, and the coach right there asked him to try out for his group. It was also in 1996 that he was stationed at Robins Air Force Base. While he was in transition as far as his military duties, he kept himself in shape and competed in his first bobsled race in 2004. “It’s like being on a run away freight train,” said || SSfepp* M 5 &8&X ENI/Gary Harmon Col.
