HOUSTON DAILY JOURNAL Arthur Eugene Sullivan Jr Arthur Eugene Sullivan Jr, has been a lifelong resi dent of Houston County. He also served in the Army from February of 1951 through January of 1953. During that time, he was assigned to G Company, 2nd Infantry Division. He was sent to Korea in July of 1952 and was wounded in September of that year. His wounds were life threatening but he survived to come home to his wife and family. He was awarded the Purple Heart. “He is very proud of his service to his country and raised his five daughters Shown are Burford and Christian Cummings, father and son, and both Navy veterans. I joined the U.S. Air Force in 1940 and serve d until 1945. I was first at Maxwell Field in Montgomery, Ala., and then at Chanute Field, Rantoul, 111., where I attended aircraft technical school I served also at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Miss; Gulfport AFB, Gulfport, Miss., at the aircraft and engine technical schools, where I was a instructor.Laer I was transferred to Laredo AFB, Texas where I was a mechanic on B-24s and B-17s used in gunnery training. While in the service, he was stationed at Lackland AFB in Texas, McGuire AFB in New Jersey, Wiesbaden AFB in Germany and Chanute AFB in Illinois. He was also a member of the Air Force Band in Washington D.C., Luke AFB in Arizona, Clark Air Base in the Philippines and finally Robins AFB. “I spent the first 11 years on the move as a single air man and was at Robins for my last nine years after getting married to my wife Mabelle,” he said. During the time he was a member of the Air Force Band he performed for Presidents, Lyndon B. Johnson, Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter.
