For the 9-1 Perry at Cairo, Friday, 7:30 p.m. Syrupmakers, that only loss was a 19-18 overtime defeat at the hands of Monroe High of Albany, which used that upset to steal away the top seed of 1-AAA in the GHSA championship bracket. So Cairo, a ranked team in the AAA classification all season, has to settle for the second seed, which means only one guaranteed home game in the playoffs. That comes on Friday, and it is against a Perry High School Panther squad, which is looking to build on the Schools make a run at state championship Special to the Journal Warner Robins, Houston County, Northside and Perry each qualified teams for the state cross country champi onship held this Saturday in Carrollton. See SENIOR, page yB No shortage of toleot or youth ooiong county's best All-Houston County SOFTBALL By DON MONCRIEF Journal Sports Editor How do you know you have an awesome All-Houston County fast-pitch team - and even better, a sound crop of talent for the future? Simple. Look at the mix. In it you will find not only members of the Georgia Independent School Association’s AAA state champions - Westfield - but also players for two teams - Warner Robins and Houston County - that made it all the way to the Georgia High School Association’s Elite Eight. Those are pretty select groups in their own right, and as far as the future, 10 of the 26 names submitted are sophomores. Six are juniors and three are freshmen so that means there are only seven seniors on the list, The bad news for us (in a “good news” sort of way) is it was almost impossible narrowing the list down to a first and second team this year (every name had a legitimate argument for, and you can see we simply could not get either team down to nine). The good news for the players is it’s going to be even harder (for us - but we’ll enjoy the challenge) next year - and then some.
