Along with that, she won according to a release, “the privilege of playing with three of Georgia’s best-known fiddlers: Mike Daugherty, Frank Maloy and Henry Rutland." In addition, she has been chosen to appear on one of Westville’s upcoming billboards (pic tured). Westville is located in Lumpkin and is a living history museum depicting an 1850 s working village. Culverhouse is in the fifth grade at Westfield Schools and is the 10-year-old daughter of Dr. and Mrs. E. Douglas Culverhouse, Jr. of Warner Robins. She has a 17-year-old sister, Ash lee. U.S. Representative Lewis honors local Eagle Scout Special to the Journal The Honorable U.S. Rep. John Lewis was the key note speaker and presenter of the highest award obtain able from the Boy Scouts of America in a historic triple ceremony held in Atlanta recently. The Eagle Scout Court of Honor is the official ceremo ny recognizing a Boy Scout’s advancement through all of the ranks of scouting after earning the rank of Eagle Scout. In a historically rare triple Eagle ceremony, the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and BSA Troop 542 pre sented the Eagle Scout Award to Anderson Hood 111 and Gregory McDowell at the First Iconium Baptist Church. The requirements to become an Eagle Scout include earning a minimum of 21 merit badges, holding leadership positions in the troop and completion of a series of community-benefi cial service projects. Lawrence Johnson, 18, the son of Gwendolyn A. Lewis and the grandson of E. L. Lewis and the late Flora M. Lewis of Perry earned his Eagle after completing his service project of conducting a “women’s essentials drive to assemble personal care packages and supplies for a battered women’s shelter.” Johnson is a graduate of Cross Keys High School and a freshman at Morehouse College, attending on a full academic scholarship. He is in the Dual Degree in Engineering program with Georgia Tech. As members of East Atlanta District’s BSA Troop 542, of the First Iconium Baptist Church, each of these Scouts has held several offices in the troop, including quarter master, patrol leader, senior patrol leader, troop guide and junior assistant scout master. All three are members of the Order of the Arrow, a Boy Scout national honor society for experienced campers, based on Native American traditions, and dedicated to the ideal of cheerful service. Johnson was also recently part of a recent historic trip to Philmont Scout Ranch at Cimarron, New Mexico. The 50+ mile trek was a test of his leadership, navi gation, hiking and camping skills in the mountainous New Mexico wilderness.
