The bride-elect is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adel Khalatbari of Las Vegas, Nev., Mary Ann Lawler and Neal Sigmon of Arlington, Va., and the granddaughter of Ben Lawler of Green Bay, Wis. She is a graduate of the Academy of the Holy Cross, the University of Maryland and The Catholic University - Columbus School of Law. She is a public affairs specialist. The groom-elect is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas P Eaton Jr. of Kathleen and the grandson of Lois Lee of Warner Robins. He is a graduate of the Westfield School, Emory University and Mercer University School of Medicine. He is a flight surgeon and Lt. Commander in the United States Navy. And, too, the mountains, trees and rivers smell dif ferent on a crisp fall day. They smell clean, void of any other fragrance. Aw, but the best scent that cloaked the air came from the hickory wood burning under the big, black wash pot filled with water. Paw paw would dip out the scald ing hot water, pour it over the recently departed hog then Daddy would expertly use a big knife to scrap away the fine hairs. Occasionally, we’d suspend our storytelling long enough to stick our heads out of the loft and watch the progress as they “dressed” the hog, which is what they called it, but “undressing” is more like it. Finally, they’d cut away the excess fat and drop it into the pot to cook it into oil that would turn into lard. Oh my goodness, what fine biscuits that lard would eventually make. It is frustrating at times being so dependent on lenses, although I am very thankful to have them at all. I dream of having the laser surgery so I could be glass and con tact free, but I would have to find the several thousand dollars it would take to do it.
