Heart of Georgia Hospice Incumbents stay put in state Legislature races By RA Y LIGHTNER Journal Staff Writer In Houston County, the incumbents will be going back to the Gold Dome. And their vote totals in the county stayed pretty close to the overall totals for the multi-county district repre sentatives. The only new face in the Houston legislative delega tion will be Tony Sellier, a Republican from Crawford County, who defeated Centerville Democrat Beth Perera to succeed Democrat Robert Ray of Fort Valley for District 136 in the state House. Sellier defeated Perera 9,429 of 68.3 percent to 4,373 or 31.7 percent across the seven-county district which includes precincts in Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Lamar, Monroe, Peach and Upson counties. Perera beat him in only Upson County with 276 votes to his 89. Peach County provided Sellier with the most votes at 2,221, and the largest margin of victory, 1,363 votes more than the 783 for Perera. Houston was a close second, where he had 2,212 votes or 65.17 percent of the 3,394 votes cast to Perera’s 1,178 or 34.71 percent and four write-ins. Sellier won all three pre cincts and the absentee votes in Houston County. His highest percentage was the absentee votes with 69.25 percent to Perera’s 30.75 percent. Perera’s highest single precinct vote total was 337 at Northside Elementary precinct, where Sellier’s 537 votes. Her highest average at 38.47 percent was also at Northside Elementary, where Sellier had 61.30 per cent. Eagle Springs Elementary precinct was the lowest sin gle precinct for Sellier where he received only 449 votes to the 271 votes for Perera. It is her home precinct. Perera’s lowest single pre cinct was absentee votes, where she had only 226 to the 509 for Sellier. In the other multi-coun ty House race, incumbent Republican Johnny Floyd, defeated Democrat chal lenger Jennifer Harris 7,059 or 66.4 percent to 3,570 or 33.6 percent. He won each county in the district, which includes Crisp, Dooly, Houston, Pulaski and Worth counties. The largest county vote count came in the race from Crisp County, where Floyd defeated Harris 2,785 to 3,570. Houston County was sec ond at 1,937 or 68.64 per cent for Floyd to 883 or 31.2 percent for Harris.
