Most of the ladies remem bered chicken, not turkey, for Thanksgiving, but they also remembered fresh ham, because fall was hog-killing time. Betty Hancock gets a dreamy look on her face talking about the cakes her mother and aunts made when the whole family gath ered for Thanksgiving. “That devil’s food cake was made from scratch, not the box stuff,” she says, “and it had that white icing on it.” Others remember the fresh coconut and caramel cakes created by their moth ers and grandmothers, who had wood stoves or kero sene stoves, but managed to COURT From page iA 0 ability to object to the annexation and request mediation,” according to the filing. The request for an injunc tion has been reviewed but has not been signed by a Superior Court judge. “It was sent upstairs but came back unsigned,” according to a court clerk. People with Medicare should be on guard and protect themselves.” The open enrollment period for Medicare Part D began Friday and ends Dec. 31. Scammers have used this as an opportunity to take advantage of those ben efiting from the drug benefit program. APPROVES From page iA the bend in Leverette Road near Hatcher for apart ments. The applicant did not ask for the multi-family zoning to begin with because he was not sure of the tract size for the apartments. City Attorney Jim Elliott said the total size of the entire tract will be slightly less than the 121.836 acres as the tract excludes about 10 feet along the eastern border to pre vent the creation of islands. Councilman John Havrilla expressed concerns about the buffer and asked, “what’s coming closest to Deerfield and Prestige?” He was told the apart ments. The large commer cial development also will have offices on the west side as a buffer between the resi dential and commercial. Havrilla was concerned about what was going in the commercial tract and that residents would have to look at the commercial property. The city could not disclose what was going there yet, except to say it was a large commercial tract. vpf* and Music Festival Starting December 2f thought December Iff*, 2006 Tor schecFuFecF events ancCacfcfitionaCinformation visit Übob www.perrycFowntown.com or contact Marti ToFCeson at 987-0751. create masterpieces all the same At Doris Williams’ child hood home near Perry, there was always chicken with cornbread dressing, and col lard greens, and - of course - tater pie. “We had a big crowd,” she remembers. “My older sister and my mother would do all the cooking.” Ollie Coney’s family went to her grandmother’s house, and grandmother apparent ly reigned supreme when it came to cooking. “She raised turkeys and guineas and chickens,” Coney says, “and we would have some of all of them.’ The conversation veers toward the killing and preparation of all those doomed Thanksgiving birds and hogs. Hardly a lady in the room hasn’t wrung a chicken’s neck, and they can demonstrate exactly how to do it. The annexation and rezoning request by Jack Smith calls for a planned used development or PUD with about 360 homes. It was zoned R-AG (residential agricultural) in the county. According to the submit ted plans there would be 127 60x90-foot lots, 87 70x90- foot lots and 146 80x100- foot lots. The minimum side set backs are five feet with 20- foot front and rear setbacks. I don’t mind a bit. It’s nice rent check coming in.” The city also annexed the Flash Foods, 3211 Ga. Highway 247 Connector. It will stay at the C-2 zoning. The site has been having septic tank problems for years. City Planner Robert Sisa said the owner would tear down the existing build ing and build a new one on the one-acre site in Peach County. Walker said the city was able to negotiate with the city of Byron to de-annex the tract as well as another 40 acres so it could be annexed into Warner Robins. “Once we went across the interstate,” Walker said, “Byron in a panic annexed about 40 acres on this side through the General Assembly.” The city also annexed 1.85 acres for Scott Free from R AG to C-2 near the intersec tion of Ga. 96 and Lake Joy Road.
