They are different from (the other spread teams) because they run the ball more. They are about 50-50 run-pass. Even out of the spread they are going to run it.” The speed of M.L. King is also evident on defense. “What we have to do is block them and stay on them,” said Johnson. “They do a good job of running to the football. They stunt a lot, cause a lot of bad plays. They take a lot of defensive chances. We have to make sure our schemes are good, pick up the stunts and make a play or two here and there.” So the speed is there, but how about size? Johnson said the Lions are huge on the offensive line. The ros ter lists one player at 355 pounds, another at 300 pounds and two more at 295 pounds. All of them are in the junior class. “It’s tough to get in there, like a wall,” said Johnson. The coach said the defen sive front doesn’t tip the scales over, but relies on speed. Houston County couldn't have asked for more of a dominating offensive perfor mance in the first round, going for more than 430 yards on the ground at Newnan. “In our case, it was both (the backs and the offen sive line),” said Johnson. HEADS From page iB since then, Camden County has given up just 13 points. In fact, no one has scored on the Wildcats in the month of November. Camden’s third shutout in a row was in last week’s first round action, a 36-0 win against Redan at Chris Gilman Stadium in Kingsland. “They are very good,” said Warner Robins head coach Bryan Way. “They are big, athletic and well-coached.” Under head coach Jim Herron, Camden County runs a wing-T offense and has the kind of speed that will make the Demons defense cover the entire field. That stingy Wildcat defense is set up in a man ner that Way said is unlike any his offense has seen so far. He said it’s a 3-5 align ment that also relies on its speed. With only three players on the defensive line of scrim mage, it would appear to be a defense that Warner Robins’ rushing-oriented attack can exploit. Eight players in the backfield usually means one is expecting a lot of pass ing. With Camden’s speed, however, Way said where the players are won’t be a factor in Warner Robins’ favor. “We will try to, but no one we’ve seen has been able to exploit it a whole lot,” he said. “They have real good technique and they get to the ball in a hurry.” On the Camden County offensive side, Way said the “All three, Eric (O’Neal), DJ (Dodson) and Martez (King), did a great job of reading the blocks and running. Our offensive line has played really well since the middle of the season. They feel like they can block a lot of people and make good things hap pen. “We felt like we could move the ball against Newnan, but didn’t think we would move it that well. They are not as bad as we made them look on defense. We were able to keep the ball away from them.” Newnan still did some damage as far as yardage goes on the Houston defense, especially in the passing game. For the Bear defend ers, it was more about spe cific moments like the two fumble recoveries in the first quarter, a fourth-quarter sack for Princeton Dean and a fourth-down pass knocked down by Dexter Holman. “A team like that will throw it enough that even tually they will catch some,” said Johnson. “They had a couple of routes they had not shown that ended up being pretty good. That hurt us, but I thought our coaches did a good job adjusting at the end.” There is concern at Houston about the kick ing game with two missed PAT tries Friday. Houston was able to make up for them with two successful two-point conversions, but Johnson knows that’s a lower percentage play than the placekick. fullback is the main ball car rier through the trap and belly plays. He said the Wildcats will also show sev eral unbalanced formations and run the misdirection. It’s an offense he compared to Lowndes High, adding that they will run a play like the sweep one way, then come back with the sweep in a totally different align ment. “It will be a tough game,” said Way. “We need to play well in order to give us a chance. We have played a tough schedule. They are not a whole lot tougher than anyone we’ve already played.” That schedule included playing at both Lowndes and Valdosta. The Demons came away victorious on both occasions. Lowndes County, like Camden, borders the state of Florida. This week, however, is a holiday week for Houston County schools. So on Friday, Warner Robins will have plenty of time to get things together for the long road trip. Way said they will even stop somewhere halfway and stretch their legs out. The state first round was a good one for Region 1- AAAAA, a clean 4-0 sweep in fact. Way said it was a league where there wasn’t much difference between the top and the bottom. Despite the 7-4 record, the Demons have the experience as a program in playoff situations to make this second-round game a marquee matchup. ■ mm m ■ i ft, i ßfeh S holiday value Of T UP ro THRfii FREE WHENYOU BUY ONE FOR $2999 after 55(1 mail in rebate debit cat il with MEdia" package jiut chase'' and 2 year survicis agreement per phone SAMSUNG c 417 BLUETOOTH ENABLED CAMERA PHONE CALL YOUR CINGULAR WIRELESS STORE FOR EXTENDED HOLIDAY HOURS. I have some big girls, but they can all run the floor. When we get a rebound, it doesn’t matter who has it in her hands, she can push it up the floor and run our point. I think that’s what’s going to surprise some people. We’re going to get it up the floor and hopefully get a scoring opportunity real quick.” A big challenger to the region championship is a newcomer, but no stranger to Houston County. Warner Robins entered 1-AAAAA this year from Class AAAA with two recent Division I signees. The Demonettes join Lowndes, Tift County and Colquitt County as the con tenders for just four state tournament slots. “The region, it seems, just gets stronger each year,” said Baxley. “Bringing Warner Robins in adds to that.” $-|9999 after SI 00 nrad-in rebate debit card with unlimited data package purchase, minimum $39.39 voice plan, and 2 year service agreement.
