Go Fish, a Minneapolis trio,
is churning up the musical waters with a unique
brand of fun, kid-friendly rtx'k ’n' roll chat's also
the foundation of a growing, cross-generational
ministry of faith and family values.
“The most common remark we hear from
parents is, ‘Go Fish CDs are che only ones that
our entire family can listen to in the car,’" mem
ber Jason Folkmann says. “That sums up why
we do what we do—to have the opportunity to
make music that brings families cogether."
Since its origin in 1993, che group—found
ed by Jamie Statema, raw .34, who later was
joined by Folkmann and Andy Selness, both
29 —toured religiously across the Midwest,
building a reputation as an energetic, a cappella
Christian trio with a musical message built on
biblical principles. They took their name from
the New Testament passage in which Jesus
promises to make his disciples “fishers of men."
They've been featured on TV's Today
show, performed the national anthem at Min
nesota Vikings and Timberwolves games,
and appeared on evangelism crusades with
the Revs. Franklin and Will Graham (the son
and grandson, respectively, of the Rev. Billv
Graham). Their new Snou, rhe group’s 10th
CD, is a collection of Christmas songs.
“We want to instill values in the home
again by bringing it back to the basic foun
dations of the Bible," Selness says.
All three members are married, and Sel
ness and Statema are dads, adding an even
more personal element to their music.
“This is where God wants us," Statema
says, "and it feels pretty important.”^
