Detachment holds command change Special to the Journal The 138th Military Intelligence Company Military Intelligence Detachment, which is the Army unit, attached to the 116th Air Control Wing (Joint STARS) on Robins Air Force Base, held a change of command ceremony Dec. 1. Duringthattime,Capt. Jeff Fair relinquished command to Capt. Stan Thurston. The 138th Aviation Company (Radio Research) was originally consti tuted June 1, 1966 in Da Nang, Vietnam as an active Army unit under the Army Security Agency. The air frame that was flown was the U-8 Seminole. The 138th AV Co mission was airborne direction finding. Because of its flexibility and efficiency it became the workhorse of the ASA inventory. During the Vietnam War the 138th AV Co participated in all of the major campaigns of the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1973. The 138th AV Co was Inactivated March 1, 1973 in Vietnam. On Apr. 15, 1974 the 138th AV Co (Radio Research) was activated and redesig nated as the 138th Army Security Agency Company (AviationMUSAß) at McCoy USAR Center, McCoy AFB, Orlando, Fla. On Oct. 16, 2004 the 138th Military Intelligence Company activated at Robins AFB, Georgia as an active Army unit subordi nate to the Intelligence and Security Command.
