During that time, families, teachers and students participated in math learning activities. The night was sponsored with the help of the local Georgia Youth Science and Technology Center. UGA offering equine classes Special to the Journal To help Georgia horse own ers care for their more than 230,000 horses, University of Georgia animal scien tists have scheduled two equine care short equine Wednesday-Thursday. “Mare care and reproduc tion” is set for Wednesday and “stallion management and reproduction” Thursday. Both classes will begin with morning lecture and discus sion sessions, followed by afternoon labs. Both sessions will be at the UGA Animal and Dairy Science Livestock Instructional Arena at South Milledge and Simonton Bridge roads in Athens. The courses are sponsored by the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, UGA Cooperative Extension and the UGA College of Veterinary Medicine. The mare course will address maiden care before breeding, pregnant mare care, reproductive anatomy and physiology, artificial insemination, ultrasound, embryo transfer and older mare breeding. It will cover the newest technologies for infertility and manipulation of estrous cycles. The stallion course will cover reproductive anatomy and physiology, management of stallions before and during breeding season, breeding soundness exams, records and proper paperwork and collection and evaluation of breeding material. Registration will be from 7:30 to 8 a.m. each day.
