Michael Walker of Perry

until Crosskey’s hot hand warmed
up at the period’s end. She opened
the second quarter with another
3-point basket.
With a three-point play after
an offensive rebound by Janesa
Johnson, Houston County took the
lead for good at 13-12.
When Torain and Crosskey com

of shots, the Panthers took
full command of the score
board in the second quarter.
In the final minute before
halftime, Fluellen canned a
3-point shot to make it 40-26
at the break.
Fluellen showed he could
also score inside putting
back an offensive rebound in
the third. Akeen Felder and

power moves near the bas

er and dunk on the offensive
boards that kept Perry in a
double-digit lead 53-41.
Houston’s main edge in
the second half was at the
foul line. The Bears made

which ended at 57-46 Perry.

“Things went well on
defense,” said Hornet coach
Jake Walls. “We contested
shots well. We rebounded.
But we only shot 16-for

Walls added he certainly
doesn’t expect that bad a
percentage all season, but
on Saturday it put his team
in a tough hole. He was
impressed, though, with the
fact Westfield was still in the
game at the end.
On that last shot, Walls

The Westfield girls bas

on the season with a road
loss Saturday.
It was the second meeting
of the young season against
Mount de Sales as the Lady
Hornets fell 54-32 at the
Tattnall Square tournament
on Nov. 21.
Mason Moreland had nine
points and was the team’s
top rebounder, according to
beginning. Roberts drained a 3 and
Burgess scored off a steal to cap
a 7-0 with 4:31 remaining (44-38
HC). Despite Houston’s efforts to
run down the clock, Sheek Ragin
of Perry made a clutch steal that
led to a Roberts basket for a 47-42
score. But two free throws from
Bethany Crenshaw countered two
from West that made it a three
point game.
