Warner Robins Rec to hold Christmas camp The Warner Robins Recreation Department is regis tering boys and girls ages 7-12 for Holly Days Christmas Camp to be held Dec. 21 through Jan. 4, 2007 (Christmas holidays for Houston County Schools), Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. except Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, 2007. Experienced camp coun selors, campers are well-super vised, structured program. The cost is $75 for city residents; sllO for county residents and $l4O for out-of-county. YMGA offers special sign-up promotion The YMCA is currently offer ing a special promotion where they are giving away one free month of gym membership to all new members. Willis leads Demons over Peach County By MA TTHEW BROWN ' Journal Sports Writer Still with a six-man varsi ty basketball roster, Warner Robins High had four starters score in dou ble figures Tuesday in a 68-58 vic tory against Peach County High at home. Warner Robins boys 68, Peach County 58 Both Peach County and Warner Robins are still involved in the state foot ball playoffs, but basketball season is in its early stages. For the home Demons, this represented the first victory of 20()6-2007 in the home debut. Kenny Willis, after strug gling to score one week before at Perry High, had a team-high 22 points. Point guard Pierre Miller had 14 points. Kenny Fluellen was next with 12, and Braxton Duggar scored 10. With both Willis and Miller connecting on 3-point shots, Warner Robins jumped out to a 10-2 lead. Stratford sweeps Westfield From staff reports Westfield’s girls and boys took to the road and to Macon Tuesday where both played and fell short to Stratford. The Lady Hornets lost 56- while the Hornets were beaten 57- Westfield’s girls, which Stratford girls 56, Westfield 28; Eagles 57, Hornets 40 trailed at the half 25-14, couldn’t get any of its players on track or in double-digits. It also couldn’t find an answer to Virginia Hershey who scored 21 points for the Lady Eagles. Teammate Sara Ann Manocheo had 10. Hanna Jones, one of five sophomores - the other seven are freshmen - led the Lady Hornets in scoring with 6. Mallory Eubanks, one of the Sports Edwards for two. Edwards was the only substitute on the bench available to coach Chip Malone. Miller scored two more points off his own steal, pushing the Demons to a 21-7 lead after eight minutes of play. Warner Robins was look ing at a runaway in the sec ond quarter. Willis, at 4:17 until halftime, sank a 3- pointer to put his club up by 17, 30-13. Miller picked up a pair of assists, including a hard pass through several people to Duggar. The point guard was on the receiving end of a fast-break feed, and the ensuing lay-in doubled up Peach County 36-18. Peach’s own offense showed signs of warming up prior to intermission. With a 3-point field goal, the Trojans ended the first half on a 9-2 run and trailed by 11, 38-27, at the half. Warner Robins’ own shoot ing success went in a differ ent direction at the start of the second half. More than two minutes into the third, Edwards ran the floor to get his team’s first field goal. Peach, with an open look, got as close as eight, 41-33. The Demons answered with some of their easier attempts of the half, Willis getting an assist on the break to Duggar and Fluellen scor- aforementioned ninth graders, had 5, as did another fresh man, Abby Goodroe. Mekensie Jackson had 4, Haley Way and Mason Moreland 3 and Sheldon Hiley finished out the team’s scoring with 2. The loss dropped Westfield to 1-3 overall. They, along with the Hornets, are slated to play next at the Trinity Christian tourna ment Friday and Saturday in Dublin. As far as the Hornets, they 34-21 at the half. They had problems stopping Will Schorr who scored 17 and Ross Rabun and Russell Henley, each of which scored 11. Nash Murph, the Hornets’ only senior, led them with 8. Riley Sims had 7, Casey Young 5 and Cohen Carpenter 3. The Trojans had three Demonettes open strong, soar past Lady Trojans By MATTHEW BROWN Journal Sports Writer Warner Robins’ Demonettes never looked back after an 11-0 run to open Tuesday’s non-region girls basket ball action at home. Four play ers scored in double figures in Warner Robins’ 64- Warner Robins girls 64, Peach County 59 59 triumph against Peach County High. Symone Wilkerson led the way with 13 points. After the big scoring run started the contest, Wilkerson banked home a 3-point basket and cut inside on the dribble for two more points. The Demonettes were ahead 18-6 after the opening quarter.
