Efforts under way to recover films Efforts are under way to gather Ralph Tabor's films of first grade classes in Perry. These will be converted onto DVDs for preser vation. Missing films are of the classes that graduated in 1959, 1961, 1962, 1965, 1969, 1971, 1980, 1981 and 1982. But after a certain time of serving in the district attorney’s office, Lumsden said, she became interested. “I enjoy public service and I am always interested in doing work that benefits the community.” “I am really looking for ward to it,” she said. The off-base incident included the crash of an F-15 off Industrial Park behind Northrop Grumman and Cascade Corporation, locat in the Houston County Judicial Circuit, was hired at the district attorney’s office about 10 years ago by then DA Edward Lukemire, now a Superior Court judge. “It was one of his last acts LUMSDEN as DA,” Lumsden said, before Lukemire left for the ed at the Fire Department Training Center. Warner Robins Fire Department had two engine companies respond along with a crash truck and an engine from the base to put out the plane and two buildings, which caught fire. Lt. Ross Moulton, from WRFD Engine 701, said police and EMS also respond ed. The response was coordi nated with the fire depart Superior Court bench. She will join Lukemire and Judge George Nunn on the Superior Court as well as Judge L.M. Buster McConnell, who has served in senior status and “has been critical in keeping the cases moving,” Lumsden said. “The county has needed the third judge for some time,” she said. She expects McConnell will continued to be uti lized but to a lesser extent now that there is a third ment on base. A staging area was set up by Cascade with a medi cal unit, the GSAR truck and two more engines. The Georgia Search and Rescue truck is a $1 million dol lar multi-county unit that responds from Houston County Fire Department. In the drill, Moulton said, “we met the pilot on the road. We conducted search and rescue operations on the judge position. The position, as well as the salary, and another assistant district attorney, were approved by the state General Assembly at the last session. “I’m not sure what the salary is,” she said when asked, “but there is a flat salary from the state and it is supplemented by the county.” Lumsden will be sworn in a judge on Jan. 2, 2007 by Gov. Robins releases name of victim By RAY LIGHTNER Journal Staff Writer Retired Chief Master Sgt. Thomas Bruno was killed as the result of injuries of a traffic accident at the base gas station Thursday. After a pick-up truck struck a pole they both impacted a sports utility vehicle, which struck Bruno. After being stabilized on-scene by base person nel, Bruno later died at the Macon Medical Center as a result of the accident. “It is a sad day when we lose a member of the Air Force family,” said Col. Warren Berry, 78th Air Base Wing Vice Commander. ”We extend our support, thoughts and prayers to Chief Bruno’s family and friends.” Another retiree, Emerson Coleman, was driving near the base gas station and suffered a medical condi tion which caused him to lose control of his pick-up truck and hit the pole about noon Thursday, according to George Jozens, Chief of Media Relations, 78th Air Base Wing public affairs. Coleman was treated and See RETIRED, page 6A Authority preps for airport upgrades By NANCY HAWK Journal Staff Writer The Perry-Houston County Airport Authority is busy working on grant preps and finances for the airport upgrades. At a meeting this past week, several members-rep resentatives of the GADOT and the FAA worked on the fine points of grant applica tion. Several opportunities have presented new possibilities for improving the airport’s taxiway and runway, allow ing it to be more competi tive for corporate business needs. Perhaps in particular, in regard to additional han gar space, these upgrades couldn’t have come at a bet ter time. The airport currently receives an income from the rentals, but they have been as much as a 100 percent in See AIRPORT, page 6A
