To that end, the children even v/ent outside and put into practice those games. Also, Earl Bowman, Hall’s father, and his friend Rink Kirkpatrick came and taught the first grades how to play marbles. They are members of the GRIT marble club in Cochran. “What is really neat,” Hall said, “is that my dad, Earl and Mr. Rink were friends in first grade and they played marbles together then.” AIRPORT From page iA use and a waiting list has had to be established. Approximately $1.6 billion is anticipated to be avail able over the 25-year term of the settlement. One Georgia investments will be targeted towards rural communities. “Air transportation is the preferred choice for business and industry decision makers in the 21st century economy. Our economic development efforts will benefit greatly from accessible rural air ports throughout Georgia,” said Gov. Sonny Perdue. “Rural airports also con nect Georgians to metro areas, enhance tourism opportunities, expedite access to emergency health care services and support the transportation needs of entrepreneurs and small business owners.” At completion in 2009 the improvements will cost a total of $7,640,000. The position will come up for election in 2008 for the term that begins in Jan. 1, 2009. Lumsden said there will be some working around the criminal court calendar, because she is coming in from the DA’s office. “Obviously I’ll not be hearing any criminal case that was in the DA’s office when I was there,” she said. “But I’m sure they will have plenty of work for me.” In the meantime, Lumsden will be inter viewing, talking with people to fill the two staff positions - secretary and court reporter - she gets as judge. The District Attorney’s office will have to replace her and hire another assistant district attorney that comes with the new judgeship. Lumsden said District Attorney Kelly Burke has already been conducting interviews for the new ADA.
