The first dry cleaning plant opened in Paris in the 1840's when a petroleum-type fluid was accidentally spilled on a greasy fab ric and the stain disappeared. The dry cleaning process is not dry. but does not use water. Perchloro ethylene (perc, the most common dry cleaning fluid), petroleum, CO2. and Green Earth are current solvents.
