Baseball and softball games only end in ties dur ing timed tournaments. Championships never end knotted at 2-2. Both teams keep playing until somebody wins. Soccer only has ties that bind and gag whenever I have to attend a game. Tennis doesn’t have ties and golf matches play extra holes. None of this politically correct New England mumbo jumbo that says both teams won by just playing. Fragile young egos remain intact. Ties are compromises to avoid hurt feelingß that real ly make everybody involved angry. Ties are half truths. When Dublin’s players reach middle age and tell their grandchildren they played on a championship team, the bitter aftertaste in their mouths will the unspoken words, “co-champions.” Winning means beating the other team.
