Warner Robins honors Claude Lewis for service to the city By RAY LIGHTNER Journal Staff Writer Warner Robins honored Claude Lewis Monday night for his more than 30 years of service to the city. Lewis ran the city rec reation department for 30 years. “He gave you a pat on the back when we needed it and a pat somewhere else when we needed it,” said Larry Snellgrove. Snellgrove, Mayor Donald Walker and Councilman John Havrilla said they were the beneficiaries of Lewis’s ~-.< r Mgr’ jjaTp. &{ss.'a Journal/Ray Lightner Warner Robins Mayor Donald Walker presented an award for five years served to the city to Marsha Buzzell, current director of Convention and Visitors Bureau. She has also served on the Chamber of Commerce. Her husband Lance is at her side for the presentation. MgyggjHm • Journal/Ray Lightner Walker presented Officer Milford Howard with his 10-year pin. Howard has more than 28 years in law enforcement in Georgia and Texas. The Houston County High School student was at the council meeting as part of his community merit badge. guidance and they credited him with the success in their lives. Walker noted Lewis had had an impact on every child’s life as the inventor of T-ball. Walker presented Lewis with a 30-year pin, “just a small token of how much we appreciate what you did for, what you taught us. You taught us a lot about life.” Tony Tebbe, a 20-year city firefighter, said he told Lewis about his pin and said: “Lewis told me he’d been with the fire depart ment for 30 years and never Five-year pin 10-year pin Communit merit got a pin.” Walker said it was an over sight and apologized. He said Lewis has been a friend to all. When Lewis took the podi um, he joked, “It’s not fair. I was told to come down here to talk about Larry Snellgrove. I had a 16-page speech. I was gonna really tell it.” Lewis said he has enjoyed his life “more than you know. I am so proud to see Larry, the mayor, John.
