The Bears and the Demons face strong opposition in Lowndes, Tift, Valdosta, Colquitt and Coffee. I wouldn’t want to have to compete in that region. Still, the schools that sur vive their region schedules will, I think, be a match for those teams from Savannah and Atlanta. The girls’ teams face some serious challenges. Although Warner Robins looks to dom inate 1-AAAAA, there are some good teams in other regions that will be major stumbling blocks when the playoff schedule begins. Cheri White and Kittery Maine should anchor a com petent squad. The Lady Panthers have their work cutout for them, but Ashley Roberts really impressed me. If a couple more girls on the squad start playing with her intensity, Perry could be a big sur prise. As long as the Lady Bears have Tonia Williams, they should be competitive, espe cially if Hannah Channell can regain her pre-injury form. I like Channell because from talking to her, I think she really understands the game. The Lady Bears need her healthy to put some maturity in the lineup. Basketball in Houston County is alive and well and worth watching. Also worth watching is the soap opera called the Atlanta Falcons. I’m going on record right now that Jim Mora Jr. will be gone next season regardless if the Falcons make the play offs. Vick threw two inter ceptions, and I agree with the talking heads announc ing the game. Vick feels he has to carry the team, which means he hue From page iB season with four straight wins. Up next for Hardy’s club are mostly games against Region 4-AAA oppo nents, including home at homes with Mary Persons and Jackson of the north OUT From page iB were busy chasing the ball out of bounds underneath their own basket. Campbell stretched its lead to eight, 15-7, to start the first minute of the sec ond quarter before Warner Robins closed it to five, 15- 10. As happened twice dur ing that period, each time the Demonettes threatened to make any kind of run, the Lady Spartans hit a trey. The last of those - they had six in all - in the first half came with 2:12 left before the buzzer and put THE HOUSTON DAILY JOURNAL "Georgians win support football, but only when they see good lootbaß being played." can’t rely on the other 10 offensive players to get it done. That’s a coaching problem. It wasn’t Vick’s fault that Carolina was able to control the game by running the football. Georgians will support pro football, but only when they see good football being played. There’s something about the Falcons. They remind me of the Chicago Cubs. It’s almost as if they’ve been hexed by the same demons that made the Cubs perennial losers. Like the Cubs, the Falcons can succeed to a certain point until they find a way to self-destruct. Arthur Blank has a right to expect his players to win. My suggestion: move the team to Los Angeles and start over with an expan sion club. Let’s see if a new team can appease the foot ball gods. Either that or hold an exorcism. The problem seems to be that Atlanta can’t win at home. Move the team to another locale and see if that changes. At least I won’t have to share the misery. I will tell you now that the Braves will finish next year with a losing record. Atlanta has done nothing to improve its pitching woes. It’s time for the Braves to stop trading for starters and begin exploiting its minor league talent pool. There, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Send more coal please. It looks like a cold winter. sub-region. “It gives us a lot of con fidence,” said Hardy about the effect of winning the Bear Brawl on the rest of the season. “The only problem is we’re off until Jan. (5). I wish we were playing a game sometime soon. We’ll have to get in the gym, practice and get ready to go.” Campbell up 28-16. It wasn’t like Warner Robins didn’t have its chanc es. It did - every bit as many as the Lady Spartans. It’s just that the latter was able to take advantage of a few more than the Demonettes. Campbell led 32-20 at the half and 49-30 heading to the final quarter. Kittery Maine led the Demonettes in scoring with 10 while Brittany Hall led Campbell with 18. On Saturday against the Lady Trojans Warner Robins’ scorers fared much better. Maine had 14, Cherie White 16 and Shayla James 10.
