Boh Thompson makes
a career out of something
most of us would pay to do.
“I’m from an outdoors
family,” the Columbia
County man said. “I started
fishing and quail hunting
with my dad when I was
just 4.”
Thompson is producer
and photo director for a new
fishing show - Bass Edge
- that makes its national
premier Wednesday.
“We’re traveling to eight
states and in each area, our
host, Aaron Martin, pairs
himself with some profes
sional in the field to explore
a particular type of fish
ing,” he said. “Our guest
is always an expert in that
area.”
Bass Edge will begin its
season on Versus Network
(formerly Outdoor Life
Network) at 8:30 a.m.
Wednesday with an inau
gural episode entitled
Getting , the Most from

Other episodes have taken

Thompson has filmed guests

One of the more memorable
outings, to be featured in a
later episode, took place at
Missouri’s Table Rock Lake
with host Martin and guest
pro Mike Webb.
“We were drop-shotting -
- using a vertical suspended
jig, or spooning technique,”
Thompson said. “And we
were fishing with 6-pound
test line.”
As the cameras rolled,
Webb’s rod tipped heartily
and line began to spin from
the reel.
“We’re out there fishing,
and Mike says he got a hit.
Then he says, “Whoa! This
is no bass!“ Thompson said.

“We played pretty good as

same period. Mora Junior’s
dad, Jim Mora Sr., said dur-.
ing a radio interview that
Vick was a coach killer.
So maybe, it would be bet
ter to say, “Who Will Vick’s
Next Fool Be?”
The Atlanta offense has
had more offensive coordi
nators during the same span
than head coaches. Each
coordinator had the right
system to fit Vick.
So far nothing has
worked.
Dan Marino suggested
using five wide outs and
leaving Vick alone in the
backfield. He believed Vick
would cause more chaos that
way and have more targets
to throw to.
Regardless, as Freddie
Mercury sang, “Another one
gone. Another one gone.
Another one bites the dust.”
Let’s look at what the next
coach will have to deal with.
This season, Atlanta fin
ished 12th in offense in the
NFL, but led in rushing
yards. Atlanta has led the
league in rushing the past
three seasons.
In the past five years, the
Falcons worst rushing rank
was 14th and that was the
season Vick played only five
games.
During that same period,
Atlanta has never finished
better than 23rd in passing,
and that was in 2002. This
year, Atlanta ranked 32nd. I
didn’t want to say last.
Since the common philos
ophy maintains the neces
sity for a successful running
attack is a strong passing
game, I can only assume
that Vick’s running makes
the difference.
To be blunt, the new coach
had better figure out a way
to make the Falcons two
dimensional. The ball trav
els faster through the air.
Was Mora Jr. humming
“After you are through with
me, who will your next fool
be?” as he emptied his desk.
Before he began perusing
the want ads, did he slide a
Queen CD into his stereo?
Troy Aikman suggested
that Mora was too friendly
with the players. He said he
thought that was a mistake,
that a coach needed distance
and familiarity led to disci
pline problems.

shot deserters, but he hasn’t
been available since 1876.
Besides, he lost. Alas, the
winners of that battle ended
up murdered by their own
tribesmen, and they didn’t
know anything about foot
ball.
Whoever is hired must fix
a broken football team. The
defense was ninth against
the rush, hut 29th against
the pass.
In 2005 the defense fin
ished 26th in rush defense
and last in pass defense. The
secondary is a joke.
Coaching the Atlanta
Falcons might be a tough
sell. Please note the lack
of sorrow expressed by Vick
over the departure of his
head coach.
What coach would want to
walk into a situation where
a player is on a first name
basis with the owner?
And the new coach will
have to replace the entire
coaching staff. Why keep a
group who has failed to win
consistently. Definitely, the
offensive coordinator should
start looking for a new job.
Any new head coach should
make sure his contract is
for at least four years and
includes an expensive sepa
ration bonus. He’ll need it
for moving expenses.
The four-year contract will
guarantee the new sacri-

Vick’s popularity. I think the
fans are beginning to lose
patience.
That being said, the world
is full of optimists who think
they can succeed. As Ricky
Nelson said, “Fools rush
in.”
I don’t want anyone who
has been a head coach before.
They got fired for a reason.
The new coach should
have a Super Bowl ring and
the reputation necessary to
stomp on a few out of con
trol egos.
My suggestions for head
coach are Bill Cowher, Dan
Marino, or any successful
defensive coordinator in the
league. As for the offense,
hire Northside’s or Warner
Robins’ offensive coordina
tor. They know how to use a
running quarterback.
