FLOWERY BRANCH - In
hiring Bobby Petrino as the
Falcons head coach, team
owner Arthur Blank checked
his Ps and Qs and decided to
focus on the Ps.
Points and productivity.
Blank wants an offense
as dynamic and electrifying
as the quarterback leading
it. So he picked Petrino,
an offensive guru at the
University of Louisville the
last four years, to lead his

Northside boys lose to Stockbridge in subregion contest

A Northside team still try

Stockbridge 75-51 in boy’s
sub-region 48-AAAA basket
ball at Northside Tuesday
night.
“We don’t know what’s
normal yet,” Northside head
coach Keith Smith said of
his team’s effort. “They’ve
played 14 games as a team;
we’ve played seven.”
Smith was referring to the
fact that many of his play
ers were still playing foot

“I changed some of my
defensive schemes,” said
Northside head coach
Casaundra Wilson of her
half-time efforts. “I changed
the role of some of my play
ers. They’re versatile. They
can change from one job to
another.”
Stockbridge went one for
10 from the floor and scored
only seven points in the
frame.
“We played them tough
in the first half,” said
Stockbridge head coach
Tondra Irby. “In the middle
of the third quarter and the
fourth quarter, we gave up.
We stopped playing.”
The game started with
both teams playing each
other close with seven lead
changes in the opening
quarter. Holder, a senior, put
the Lady Eagles on top for
good when she scored on a
put back to give Northside
a one point lead 14-13 going
into the second quarter.
Holder scored eight points
in the first.
“We were doing things to
state’s economic health that
we graduate all of our stu
dents from high school,”
said Gov. Sonny Perdue who
championed the effort.
One of the information
pieces also presented in the
report was that 88 percent
of the students who drop out

62 percent having a “C”

“Of the 49 games Bobby
coached (at Louisville), the
team scored 60 points or

Petrino inherits a Falcons
team that is scoring chal
lenged. Atlanta ranked 25th
in the 32-team NFL in scor
ing offense this season, aver
aging 18.2 points per game.
The Falcons scored 14 or
eighth in the region and
wasted no time in showing
why that’s so.
The Tigers’ Demitrius
Holmes opened the game
with a 3-pointer and scored
11 of his game-high 24 points
in the first quarter.
“He’s been playing really
well,” said head coach Mark
Andrews. “Alex Campbell
and Emmett Brown do really
well for us blocking shots.”
Brown finished the night
with 13 points.
“Brown shot it as good as
anybody,” Andrews said.

the close first quarter.
Wilson agreed. “I think it
was us more than them,” she
said. “We weren’t making
good decisions. I think that’s
what hurt us the most.”
By the end of the open
ing eight minutes, Northside
was already shooting the
bonus and in the second
quarter made only two field
goals but shot 21 free throws
as Stockbridge committed
16 fouls in the first half, 10
in the second quarter.
Northside didn’t need the
field goals because the Lady
Eagles made 16 of those
shots to outscore the Lady
Tigers 20-10 in the second
quarter.
“We do play aggressive,”
Irby said. “We used to a lot
of fouls, but a lot of starters
got in foul trouble.”
Irby was forced to put
inexperienced players on the
floor.
“We have four seniors
and they all start,” Irby
said. “We’re have a lot of
sophomores. They’re inex
perienced. We committed 32
turnovers in the game.”
Northside had only seven
turnovers in the first half.

An anemic passing offense
was largely to blame. The

the West Coast-style offense

Andrews said. “Some teams
get complacent, but we play
very well together. We have
good chemistry.
“We do a good job of play

knows (he) will get to play.”
Stockbridge held Northside
to only nine points in the
third quarter, extending its
lead to 62-38.

Northside. “Northside’s not

Coach Jeff Eubanks said a
major difference for his team

third quarter. Then she

changed her mode of attack,
“by taking the ball to the
basket instead of shooting
outside.”
Still, she hit two 3-point
ers during her one-woman
onslaught.
“I think we were more
conditioned,” Brown said.
“Coach has us running in
practice and that pays off a
lot.”
Northside continued its
assault in the fourth quarter,
expanding on its 25-point
lead even though Wilson was
substituting liberally.
The Lady Eagles’ defense,
thanks to Wilson’s half-time
adjustments, held the Lady
Tigers to just four field goals
in the second half, three in
the fourth quarter.
Janay Wilson led the team
