The National Park Service
is offering a Golden Age
Passport for seniors and a
Golden Access Passport for
those with disabilities that
can reduce or eliminate
entrance and parking fees
for our nation’s parks and
wildlife areas.

The Healthy Steps for
Teen Parents grant was
awarded to Trevis Killen,
Houston County Board of
Education school social
worker, by the School Social
Work Association of Georgia,
recently.
The grant, according to
a release, will be used for
the Healthy Steps for Teen
Parents, a 35-minute, psy
cho-educational parenting
group for teen parents who
are enrolled at the Houston
County Career & Technology
Center.
This nine-week interac
tive group will meet once
a week during the school
day beginning next week.
The group is formatted
around the Healthy Steps for
Teen Parents video series.
Discussion of the videos and
group topics will be facili
tated by Killen.
Goals for the group, accord
ing to the release, include
that teen parents will self
assess behavior and atti
tude when caring for them
selves and their child(ren).
Killen will empower and
challenge the group to pro
vide reflective feedback, the
release reads. For example,
he will discuss how non-aca
demic barriers such as inad
equate childcare and stress
can contribute to poor atten
dance, academic failure and
dropout.
In addition to the Healthy
Steps for Teen Parents video,
weekly group discussion top
ics will include: relation
ships and communication,
playtime and toys, people in
your child s life, baby devel
opment, teaching with love,
crying and comforting, sepa
ration anxiety, feeding and
sleeping and toilet training.

The Golden Age Passport
is a lifetime admission and
discount pass for citizens or
permanent residents of the
United States who are age
62 or older.
The pass, which only costs
$lO, is valid at all National
Park Service, Bureau of
Land Management, Corps of
Engineers, Fish and Wildlife
Service, Forest Service, and
Tennessee Valley Authority
sites with admission fees.
