in referring to a win earlier

Prior to the Rodrigues
basket, Perry lost a chance
at a defensive rebound
under the Northside goal
with the score tied 57-57.
It was one of several turn
overs both teams had in
both overtimes, turnovers
that allowed neither side to
build a substantial lead.
Northside’s biggest pro

rebounds. He had a stick

over the Panthers. “Kenny
Willis (who did likewise
against Perry) hit one at the
buzzer ... and from the same
exact spot.”
As it stood, Willis’ shot
kept it from being one that
got away. The Demons,
Malone said, “jumped out
a 57-56 lead. Rodrigues had
10 points and an assist for a
dunk by James Hagin, also
in the second overtime and
also giving the home team a
lead of 55-53.
Regulation time ended
with the game tied 45-45.
Northside led by as much
as four, 49-45, in the first
four-minute period until
Perry snapped an 0-for-4
slump with a 3-point bas
ket. Panther Kameron

on them early.” In fact, they
led 24-12 at the end of the
first quarter but only .36-29
at the half.
As Malone explained:
“Midway through the sec
ond period we didn’t play
well and we didn’t play well
part of the third. We kept
the lead the whole game we
just didn’t play like we’re
able.”
With one exception,
Even the first quarter
ended with a tie, 11-11,
and the second period went
back and forth for a while.
After a steal, Chris Willis
of Perry earned a three
point play to give his club
the lead at 14-13. DeLaun
Mitchell of Northside took
the lead back running the
floor and catching a lob
pass. But after a stick-back
score for Ward, the remain
der of the half belonged to
the Panthers.

Malone said they did well in
regard to free throws, mak
ing 10-of-12.
As it came down to the
wire, however, Malone said
they made the mistake of
fouling a Valdosta player
outside three-point terri
tory. He made all three free
throws to tie it up. Malone
called timeout and “we set
up a little deal,” he said.

Bears nip Vikings;
Lady Bears suffer
first region loss
By MA TTHEW BROWN

Houston County High
suffered its first Region 1-
AAAAA loss in girls basket-
ball Friday
at the
Bear Den.
According
to coach Sid
Baxley, the
offense just
didn’t pro
duce in a
47-38 loss to
Lowndes.
“ W e

didn’t score like we should,”
he said. “We had too many
turnovers and missed a lot
of easy inside shots.”
Top scorer Tonia Williams
was held to 14 points.
Hannah Channell scored 11
for the Lady Bears, now 3-1
in the region, 10-4 overall.
The Houston County High
boys basketball team found
itself in another region
battle Friday. Even though
Lowndes made the last shot
of the game, a 3-pointer, it
wasn’t enough to keep the
Bears from a big victory, 63-
62, at home.
