Red Cross to hold
blood drive
The American Red Cross will
hold a blood drive from 1:30-
6:30 p.m. Friday at First United
Methodist Church of Centerville.
The church is located at 600
North Houston Lake Boulevard in
Warner Robins.
Call 953-5387 for more or 953-
3090 for an appointment. Or, just
come by during those hours.
Volunteers needed
for home repairs
Can you drive a nail? Are you
able to paint a wall or ceiling?
Do you have electrical or roofing
skills? The “Rebuilding Together"
Warner Robins affiliate is asking
you to join their team.
According to the affiliate, there
are a number of homes in the
Warner Robins area in need of
repairs, some large and some
small. The group needs volun
teers, both skilled and unskilled,
to help repair or renovate these
homes. Since the organization’s
beginning in 1997, they have
renovated or repaired over four
hundred homes in the immediate
area. If you are willing to help
those in need of home repairs,
join the team by calling Jerome
Stephens at 929-1476.
Dogwood committee
begins preparations
The Perry Dogwood Festival
Committee and the Perry Area
Chamber of Commerce are cur
rently organizing the 19th Annual
Perry Dogwood Festival, set for
April 14-15 in downtown Perry.
To that end, they are also call
ing all artists to enter the Perry
Dogwood Festival T-Shirt Design
Contest. It is open to all artists,
professional, amateur and stu
dent. You can also enter as many
times as you like at $lO per entry.
Designs must be 12 by 14 inches
or smaller. You can also use any
medium: from paints, photogra
phy, to colors. The design must be
suitable for silk screening.
All artwork must be original.
Entries must be received by Jan.
30 at 5 p.m. To receive an official

Man shot in drug deal gone wrong

Overpass at about 11:56 p.m.

Manhattan Piano Trio to perform here

The Warner Robins Concert Association
is bringing the acclaimed Manhattan Piano
Trio here Sunday at 3 p.m. at the First
United Methodist Church, located 205 North
Davis Drive.
The group’s concert in Warner Robins
will include selections by Liszt, Tchaikovsky,
Debussy, Popper, Piazzolla, and Shostakovich

An altercation took place follow
ing the transaction, Dykes said, to
which Gregory Damon Jones pulled
out a rifle and fired hitting the sub
ject four times in the side, leg and
hip area.

Jones, 20, of 373 Faye Circle in
Perry, is charged with aggravated
assault, possession of a firearm dur
ing the commission of a crime, pos
session of crack cocaine and criminal
attempt to sell the crack.
His mother, Sammehness Davis,
39, also of 373 Faye Circle, was
charged with possession of crack
cocaine and maintaining a disor
derly house.

Attorney Kelly Burke said
it is up to the judge to
decide on the change of
venue for the second trial
of Lynn Turner.
Her first trial in 2004,
in which the former 911
operator was convicted
in the 1995 antifreeze
poisoning of her Cobb
County police officer hus
band, was held before a
Houston County jury. She
was sentenced to life, with
the possibility of parole
for the murder of her hus
band, Glenn Turner.
The judge approved a
change of venue that time
because of the media cov
erage of the case in metro
Atlanta.

Council gives itself a pay raise

After 23 years with only
one SSO pay increase,
the Perry Council voted
Tuesday to give itself and
the mayor a raise.
Councilman and Mayor
Pro-tern James Moore
voted against the pro
posal. Councilman James
Kusar was not present.
The raises will not go
into effect until after the
city’s next election.
Council members have
been paid $4,200, and will
receive $6,600 annually
once the raise is in affect.

Sex offender back in jail

Jerry Adam Whittaker
is back in jail. The 26-
year-old was arrested
Monday for the charges:
registration of sex offend
ers and violation of proba
tion from Superior Court
on the original charge of
statutory rape from 2001.
He is being held without
bond on the new charges.
Whittaker pled guilty
Nov. 14, 2001, to a June
17, 2001, statutory rape.
He was sentenced to 10

explained the judge would

Perry mayoral salary is in

in Acworth. The council
salaries for the same cit
ies ranged from $15,504
in College Park to $2,000
in Vidalia, putting the
Perry proposed salaries of
$6,600 in the mid-range
as well.
