Center to present
‘The Art of Chocolate’
The Perry Arts Center and the
Houston Arts Alliance will present
“The Art of Chocolate" on Feb. 10
from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. at the Art
Center, 1121 Macon Road, Perry.
The event will feature a variety of
chocolate desserts by local chefs
and caterers as well as wine and
cheese. Music will be provided by
the Georgia Big Band. The event
is a fund-raiser.
Tickets should be purchased
in advance at the Houston Arts
Alliance office in the Houston
Government Building (the old
courthouse) in downtown Perry
on weekday mornings, For more

Pancake breakfast to
benefit Scouts
A benefit pancake breakfast will
be held from 7-10 a.m.. Feb. 10 at
the Crossroads United Methodist
Church in Perry.
Tickets are $5 per plate, with
all proceeds going to support the
activities of Cub Scout Troop 419.
The breakfast will include pan
cakes, eggs, sausage and more.
Tickets may be purchased at
the door, or in advance in front
of Perry Kroger from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. Saturday. For more informa

Yard sale to help ill
13-year-old
A yard sale will be held Saturday
to benefit the fund for 13-year-old
Cody McDuffie, who is fighting
lyphoblastic leukemia.
The sale will be from 8 a.m.
until 2 p.m. at the home of Michael
and Julie Chunn, 213 Carroll Drive
in Warner Robins.
Donations of unwanted trea

group to meet
The Hospice Cancer Pad group
will meet Wednesday at 9 a.m. in
the fellowship hall of First Baptist
Church in Perry. The church is

hold flag ceremony
Sukey Hart, DAR. will hold
a flag retirement ceremony at
Christ United Methodist Church

Walk America begins

The 2007 Walk America
walk is April 14 and this
year’s Ambassador family
was introduced to the team
captions at Wednesday’s
kickoff luncheon.
The Houston County
Ambassador Family is
Dalton Guy and his par
ents Don Guy and Gina
Gutierrez. Dalton, who will
turn 3 in April, was born
premature at 24 weeks, 3
days, his mother said, at 1
pound, 10 ounces and 13
inches long at birth.
He went home after 113
days in the neonatal unit in
Macon.
“Dalton is a walking
miracle,” Gutierrez said.
“Thanks to God and the
work of the March of Dimes
he is a typical 2-year-old
boy.”
“I know what could of
happened,” she added.
“It happened to our other
baby.”
Dalton’s twin brother
Michael lived only seven
days. His lungs had not
developed enough. His par
ents credited the work of
the March of Dimes to give
them the seven days they
did have with their child.

responded to a collision with a
train Thursday at about 7:15
a.m. at the Ga. 247 Spur not
far from the Perdue plant.
According to Capt. Bill
Phelps of the Perry Police
Department, an SUV was
stopped at the tracks as a
train was approaching when
it was rear-ended by a pas
senger van. The SUV was
“knocked clear of the tracks,”
said Perry Fire Department
Deputy Chief Joel Gray, but
the van stalled on the tracks.

take place March 9-10
along U.S. Highway 341,
the Golden Isles Parkway.
The 212-mile yard sale will

The passengers got out and
the van was clipped by the
train.
Phelps said the van was
pulled along a couple of car
lengths by the train after
contact. He said “the train
operator saw it all happen
ing and immediately pulled
the brake,” slowing the train
to about 5 miles per hour at
impact.
Several of the passengers
of the van were treated on
scene by EMS, and trans
ported to the hospital from
minor injuries sustained
