Can noivChristians
go to heaven?
Jesus is quoted in John
14:6 as saying: “I am
the way, the truth, and
the life: no man cometh
unto the Father, but by
me.” ITimothy 2:5 affirms
Jesus’ declaration: “For
there is one God and one
mediator between God
and men, the man Christ
Jesus.”
Based on these verses, a
New Testament reader is
led to believe that access
to the Heavenly Father is
possible only through Jesus
Christ.
Further, if we take these
verses literally, we must
conclude that 4.1 billion
people or over two-thirds of
the world’s population that
follow religions which reject
Christ (Islam, Judaism,
Hinduism, Buddhism,
Zoroastrianism, etc) are
bound for hell.
Comparatively,
Christianity numbers
2.1 billion adherents and
accounts for approximately
33 percent of the world’s
population. Strangely,
Judaism, and Islam wor
ship the same God as
Christianity-each calling
Him by a different name
yet both deny the deity of
Christ.
Two of the finest men
I have ever known were
Jewish. They attended the
synagogue regularly and
openly professed Judaism.
Neither considered Jesus
more than a great prophet,
and you couldn’t convince
them otherwise.
Yet, I cannot bring myself
to believe that these two
deceased, saintly men,
upon their death, were dis
patched to the fiery cham
bers of hell.
The opposing argument
is that Jesus’ death on the
cross was for naught if we
say non-believers in Christ
can reach heaven. Further
complicating this matter is
Jesus’ late arrival in human
history.
According to the Biblical
reckoning of time, man
had been on the earth for
4,000 years before Jesus
appeared.

So how could those born
between Adam and Eve
(estimated 4000 8.C.) and
the birth of Jesus (circa 3
8.C.) know anything about
Jesus or the doctrine of
Christianity?
Were these multitudes
ushered into hell? Adam
and Eve had no knowledge
of Christ.
Are they
burning
in hell?

Testaments saints died
with the anticipation of a
coming Messiah.
Millions in our world
will never hear the gospel
message; many in our local
communities.
Years ago, I recall a
little 14-year old African
American boy approaching
me after I had presented
the Christmas message
from Luke and Matthew
to a group of unchurched
youth.
He said, “Mr. Bill, who
was this baby Jesus?”
There are no satisfactory
answers regarding whether
non-believers (those who
either never knew Christ
or failed to accept Him) can
receive salvation, but I do
have a solution.
Once while having lunch
with a Jewish lady and pre
senting her the gospel mes
sage of salvation, I could
tell she wasn’t buying it,
so I concluded by saying
that belief in both God and
Jesus would guarantee her
salvation.
“You can’t go wrong,” I
asserted, “if you get to life’s
end and learn that Jesus
is not the Savior, you still
have God in your corner.
Conversely, if Jesus does
prove to be the only con
duit to the Heavenly Father,
your salvation is secured.”
to a safe location.
The incident held a true
to-life illustration. God sees
us in dangerous situations.
He reaches out to rescue
us.
Not always aware of our
predicament, we sometimes
wiggle our way clear of His
hand.
God does not snatch us
up. He lovingly reaches out
again and again, ready to
set us free.
If we will humble our
selves under the mighty
hand of God, in His good
time He will lift us up.
“Let Him have all your
worries and cares, for He is
always thinking about you
and watching everything
that concerns you.” - I
Peter 5:6-7, Living Bible.
