RUN
From page yA
The Demonettes found
the Valdosta defense too
much to set up against, but
after the second quarter run
the shots inside came much
more open and easier.
White blocked a shot in
the last minute of the half,
which helped keep Warner
Robins up double figures,
26-14, at the half.
In the third quarter,
Wilkerson had two more
steals in which she turned
into field goals. She also
canned her team’s only 3-
point basket of the night.
That period ended with the

festival
Special to the Journal
The Wild Chicken Festival
will be held March 17 in
Fitzgerald.
For 28 years the festival
had been known as “The
Rattlesnake Roundup.”
However, due to declining
diamondback populations,
organizers decided to change
the focus of the festival and
rename it. In the 1960’5,
wild Burmese chickens were
stocked all over the state as
an additional game bird to
be hunted like a pheasant
or quail. Populations of the
birds never took hold in other
areas of the state, but pros
pered in the downtown area
of Fitzgerald.
The festival, according to
a release, will feature some
thing for everyone includ
ing food vendors, arts and
crafts attractions, pancake
breakfast, hot wing eating
contest, wild chicken crowing
contest, the “Wild Chicken
Run,” Cub Scout Pine Wood
Derby, special performances
by Dance South, Lovem’ or
Hatem’ Chicken Vote, and
festival clown entertainment
for the kids. The Grand will
host bluegrass music’s highly
acclaimed southern gospel
group, the Kenny & Amanda
Smith Band. Festival admis
sion is Free (some addition
al activity fees may apply).

Warner Robins takes a 7-3
region record into tonight’s
game at Houston County.

Demonettes ahead 37-21.
Valdosta got it back down
to 12 at one point of the
fourth quarter (39-27),
but then the visitors got
a whole lot of teamwork
between White and her fel

White had 26 points, and
during Senior Night cere

coach Tom Mobley honored

total after Saturday went to

Wilkerson had 11 points,
James seven and Maine six.

Warner Robins is now 7-3
in 1-AAAAA. Mobley was
also lamenting how tough
it is to win region £ames on
the road. That was due to
the Demonettes’ 57-54 loss
Friday at Colquitt County

Jeff Eubanks said the

one win in the region, that
coming against Sherwood.
For the Lady Hornets, a
win would mean a regu

Lady Raiders and a chance
for third place in 3-AAA.
Westfield’s girls are 9-16
overall.
When Westfield’s boys

final margin was 46 points.
On Saturday in Albany, it
was another win for the
powerful Knights against
the Hornets, but Westfield

Head coach Jake Walls
said the Hornets let a lot of
points get away in the first
half as they had 17 turn
overs and missed three one
and-one front ends at the
foul line (4-for-12 overall in
free throws). Despite all of
that, the Knights only led by
nine, 29-20, at halftime.
“They made a run right at
the start of the third quar

said Walls. “But we ran out

Sophomore forward Matt

With the long road trip
back from Albany and an

Still, it was a 49-37 win for
Westfield.
“Collectively, we were all
pretty average,” said Walls.
“But I don’t think you will
see that Tuesday. We are
pretty excited that Southland
is coming here. If we can
beat them and take care es

be No. 2 in the region. That
would be great. I hope that
will lead to us playing real
