a judge observes. The exhibi
tor, hoping for cooperation
from the pig, attempts to

Exhibitors will compete
in several classes according
to their age and experience.
Prizes will be awarded for
those who do the best job of
showing off their pig.
A peewee showmanship
class will also be featured,
involving those youngsters
on hand who, between the
ages of 3 and 5, wish to try
their hand at showmanship.
For the third consecutive
year there will be an old
timers showmanship class
for adults. They will, after
donating a sum of money
for the right to show, enter
the ring with a pig borrowed
from a young exhibitor and
vie for the title of top show
man.
Hogs will then compete
in a series of classes accord

the ring one at a time with
their animal. A professional
auctioneer will then proceed
to auction off each pig to the
highest bidder.
Bidders will have two
options - keep the pig for
slaughter and pay the full
price of the bid or send it on
to a local livestock barn and
pay the difference between
their bid and a previously
set floor price. Most buyers
choose the latter option, but
in either case the full pur

to the exhibitor, which helps
to offset the cost of his or

wish to pool their resources
with another individual or
business in the purchase of
a pig.
Within the show are also
two other opportunities for
exhibitors to excel. First is
the record book competition,
in which pig owners record
information regarding pro

care, and ongoing care of the
animal. Record books will
