They wrestle small. They cele
brate big.
The small applies to some of the
Perry Takedown Club’s littlest
members - those in the “Pee-Wee”
division for example.
The big applies to when they win.
“They get very excited,” said
Perry Takedown Club coach Eric
Danforth. “Especially for a lot of
them, being that they’re new (to the
sport). For a lot of them, they’re just
getting their first or second win, so

Waterford offers
special promotion
From staff reports
Waterford Golf Club,
located off State Highway
96 east of Bonaire, started
its 13th year of Military
Appreciation Day this year.
Military Appreciation
Day was started in 1995.
It, according to a release
from the club, came about
via the suggestion of two
employees who just hap
pened to be retired Air
Force veterans.
It was, according to the
release, an easy decision
for head golf professional
Tommy Wood.
“Randy Squires and
John Watson came up with
the idea after talking with
Tommy about their days
on active duty,” the release
reads, “and what it was like
to be away from home.’
“After listening to the
two vets, Tommy’s quick
response was: ‘Let’s do it;
let’s show our appreciation
to our military members.’”
The benefits of the day
are as follows: Active
duty military, Guard and
Reservists are invited to

Robert Harris of Warner

Roy T. Capes of Cordele

Crappie USA Lake Monroe
Super Wildcard Event held
Saturday in Florida.
The duo, competing in
the Semi-pro division and
received $3,500 for their
efforts, weighed in a total
catch of 9.97 pounds.
According to a release,
they fished from buoy No.
4 to the bridge, “longline
trolling with white and
Chartreuse curly tail jigs
in 11 feet of water.”
Eighty anglers from 10
different states took part in
the event.
“Weather conditions
played a major role in this
event as the teams braved
horrible conditions,” said
Crappie USA CEO Darrell
VanVactor. “But still these
anglers managed to catch
several fish. This event

“Tommy says it’s our
way of showing our appre

members who put their
lives on the line each day
protecting our great nation
and the many freedoms
we take for granted,” the
release states.
As far as Wood, he knows
a little about that, too. For
starters, he was a former
head golf professional at
Robins Air Force Base.
Per the release: “The
majority of Tommy’s life
has been tied to Robins in
one way or another, from
his mother’s civil service
career to his employment.
Tommy appreciates all the
great things Robins AFB
has brought to Middle
Georgia.”

Harris also wasn’t the
only county resident to fare
well at the event.
Rick Howard of Warner
Robins teamed up with
Steve Deason of Gray to
capture second - also in the
Semi-professional division.
Howard and Deason
brought 9.58 pounds of
crappie to the scales for
their submission. They
received $1,500 for their
efforts.
The team, according to
the release, “trolled long
line jigs on the Northeast
side of the lake using acid
rain, blue/chartreuse and
yellow and white Culprit
jigs along with Crappie
Snacks by Culprit.”
Howard and Deason also
won second in the big fish
contest with a 1.99-pound
crappie. That earned them
an additional sllO.
