ings in the Area 4-H Horse
Quiz Bowl.
This double-elimination
competition was held at the
Rock Eagle 4-H Center Jan.
27.

Business Leaders of America
attended Region Leadership
Conference Jan. 19 at Middle
Georgia Technical College in
Warner Robins.
Members competed in
various events such as Job
Interview, Public Speaking,
Business Procedures and
many more.
Houston County High had
several members placing first
through fifth place at Region
Leadership Conference.

According to a release,
members do not have to own
a horse to be involved in
the quiz bowl aspect of the
4-H horse project. Members
study horse management,
care, genetics, reproduc
tion, nutrition, horseman
ship, competitive event rules
and other topics. Electronic
equipment is used to time
and to determine who “buzz
es” in first to answer one
on-one, toss up and bonus
questions.

Although consisting of
mostly first-year team mem
bers, the Junior team suc
cessfully competed in four
rounds of competition.
In the Senior division
(grades 9-12) Houston
County placed first out of 15
teams.
As the top team at Area
Competition, Houston
County secured the right to
compete in the Georgia 4-
H State Horse Quiz Bowl
Contest. The contest was
held Feb. 1 (results pending)
at the University of Georgia
in Athens.

participated in Feed-A-Family, a canned-food drive, recently. To that end, b oxes
were placed in each of the Business Education classrooms for student to make
donations. Proceeds were taken to the Department of Family and Child Services.

Author gives talk

The Kings Chapel Spelling
Bee was held Jan. 25.
Participating this year
were fourth-graders Jamila
Spooner, Caleb Vandersall,
Emily Moody, Bryce
Brown, Amaris Glover
and Emily Rowell. Fifth
graders who participated
were: Raghi Toliver, Haylee
Williamson, Zaria Thomas,
Matthew Offenberg,
Jamyra Bolden and Hayley
Johnson. Offenberg was
this year’s winner, and
Bolden was this year’s
runner-up. Offenberg rep
resented the school at the
Houston County Spelling
Bee held Feb. 2.

known author, visited
Lindsey Elementary School
Jan. 24, which was the
100th day of school, to talk
to the students about how
important it is to write. He
encouraged them to keep
a journal and write about
their experiences every
day. He is the author of
The Wilderking Trilogy.
