LEADERS

She continued to work hard
- proof is the fact her grades
remained in the 3.6 grade
point average range and
JrROTC meant a lot to her.
Still it was hard with her
personal tragedy to carry
through attending school
and worshipping at Dabar
Ministries.
She said her first impres
sion of FVSU was a surprise.
She had to rethink who she
was and how she was going
to make it happen. ”1 had to
grow up and put priorities,
order in my life,” she said.
“While high school did
prepare me, there was so
much reading. I wasn’t dis
ciplined.
“In the ROTC, I experi
enced a focus and change
through constructive criti
cism. I found not a way out
but a way in to my own suc
cess.”
Now a sophomore, she said
she feels ROTC adds much
to her academic life. ’’This
is a family outside your larg
er family,” she said. “I first
thought they would be in
your face and I was not sure
I wanted this. It taught me
to think on my feet, high
speed. It really can make or
break you but it has done a
lot for me.
The discipline, being on
time or knock out 20 will
always be a part of my life. I
would recommend it, even to
students who are here and
far away from their family.
This is a partnership and
no one is left behind. The
teachers see the uniform
and they tell students flat
out if you are in ROTC I

Is the military the right
future for Alvin? She is
undecided.
She said she wants to go
on and get a masters - going
farther in Psychology is
important, maybe even med

she said she has not made
up her mind.
“The ROTC program has
given me strength to go on,”
she said.
