the right place at the right time,
and with her early goal Perry High

take a 1-0 win against Northside High

With just over five minutes gone
into the match, Northside attempted

Rodrigo Cabezas had two goals in
the first half, which proved to be
all Perry High’s boys soccer team
would need in what ended up a 5-1
home win against Northside High
during Thursday’s cold spell at Herb
St. John’s Stadium.
The Panthers and Eagles played
an even match for several minutes
with Perry getting the first significant
shot on goal about 14 minutes into
the action. Northside had to use a
header to save a strong throw-in, and
Panther Cody Martin missed a high
lob shot wide right.
The visiting Eagles scored first
when a crossing pass into the penalty
box resulted in a penalty kick. Kurt
Dzwonkowski lined up for the shot
and made it with 17:52 left in the first
half.
It didn’t take the home team long,
48 game seconds to be exact, to erase
the 1-0 deficit. Four different Perry
players touched the ball as it was
moved into scoring position. It went
from Mauricio Palma to Martin to
Elias Hall to Cabezas. Cabezas didn’t
have far to kick it in and started a
string of five unanswered scores for
Perry.
Minutes later Palma dribbled the

She also deflected a high ball sent

halftime, and she had to thwart off
another immediate attack.
Perry High coach Courtney Herbert
used Sara Cossart in goal for the first
half. She then switched to Jordan
Dykes for the second half.
Cossart’s biggest save came with

found the loose ball in about the same
spot as his previous goal and gave the

As far as Houston County ver
sus the Vikings, the key was pretty
much an all-around effort, said head
coach Greg Nix.
“We found just enough offense
to win the game,” Nix said. “Our
defense and rebounding held
Lowndes to 48 points, which I was
proud of.”
The Bears led in the game 15-7
after one, 28-19 at the half and
clock.
Northside also had to make a
change in the net for the second half
as Corley hit the ground hard making
a play on the ball two minutes into
the half.
Donna McMahan finished out the
match and had her first save four min
